Anas ibn Mālik (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Allah Almighty said: 'O son of Adam, so long as you call upon Me and ask of Me, I shall forgive you for what you have done, and I shall not mind. O son of Adam, were your sins to reach the clouds of the sky and were you then to ask forgiveness of Me, I shall forgive you. O son of Adam, were you to come to Me with sins nearly as great as the earth and were you then to meet Me, ascribing no partner to Me, I shall bring you forgiveness nearly as great as it is.'"
Narrated by At-TermedhyThe Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) informed that Allah Almighty said in a Qudsi Hadīth: O son of Adam, as long as you supplicate Me and hope for My mercy and do not despair, I will conceal your sin and eliminate it, not minding about that, even if the sin is one of the major ones. O son of Adam, if your sins grow so numerous that they fill what is between the heavens and the earth, extending over its different corners and areas, and then you ask forgiveness of Me, I shall erase and forgive all of them, not caring about how numerous they are. O son of Adam, if you come to Me after death with sins and misdeeds nearly as great as the earth, and you have died as a monotheist, not associating anything with Me, I will meet these sins and misdeeds with forgiveness as great as the earth, for I am vast in forgiveness and I forgive all sins except for Shirk.
Abu Wāqid al-Laythi (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: When the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) set out for Hunayn, he passed by a tree of the polytheists called Dhāt Anwāt, upon which they used to hang their weapons. They said: O Messenger of Allah, make for us a Dhāt Anwāt just as they have a Dhāt Anwāt. Thereupon, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Glory be to Allah! This is like what the Children of Israel said to Mūsa (Moses): {Make for us a god just as they have gods.} [Sūrat al-A'rāf: 138] By the One in Whose Hand my soul is, you will follow the ways of those before you."
Narrated by At-Termedhy & AhmadThe Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) set out for Hunayn, a valley between Tā’if and Makkah, and he was accompanied by some of the Companions who had recently embraced Islam. They passed by a tree called Dhāt Anwāt, i.e., on which things were hung. The polytheists used to revere it and hang their weapons and other things upon it to seek blessing. Thinking it was permissible, they asked the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) to make them a tree like this one upon which they could hang their weapons to seek blessing. Thereupon, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) exalted Allah by way of disapproval of such a request and by way of extolling Allah. He informed them that their statement was similar to that which the people of Moses had said to him: {Make for us a god just as they have gods} When they saw those who were worshipping idols and asked to have idols like those of the polytheists, he clarified to them that by this, they were indeed following their ways. Then, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) informed by way of warning that this Ummah will follow the ways of the Jews and Christians and will copy their acts.
Ibn ‘Abbās (may Allah be pleased with him and his father) reported: A man came to the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and talked to him about some matter and then said: It is as Allah wills and you will. Thereupon, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do you make me an equal to Allah? Say: 'It is as Allah alone wills.'"
Narrated by Ibn Majah & Ahmad and An-Nasa'i in Major SunanA man came to the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and talked to him about a matter of his, then he said: "It is as Allah wills and you will." The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) disapproved of what he said and informed him that coupling the creature's will with the will of Allah using the conjunctive 'and' constitutes minor Shirk (polytheism) and it is impermissible for a Muslim to utter such words. Then, he guided him to the correct wording: "What Allah alone wills," thus singling Allah out in His will and not coupling Him with anyone else's will using any of the conjunctions.
‘Ā’ishah, Mother of the Believers, (may Allah be pleased with her) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah'sAllah's peace and blessings be upon him) came into my place, and there was a curtain with some images on it that I had hung along a platform of mine. On seeing it, he tore it up, and the colour of his face changed, and he said: "O ''Ā’ishah, the people who will receive the severest punishment on the Day of Judgment will be those who try to emulate Allah'sAllah's creation." ''Ā’ishah said: "So, we tore it and made one or two cushions out of it."
Narrated by Bukhari & MuslimThe Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) entered the place of 'Ā’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) in his house and found that she had covered a small cabinet, wherein things are kept with a piece of fabric that had images of living beings on it. The color of his face changed by way of anger for the sake of Allah, and he took it away and said: People who will receive the severest punishment on the Day of Judgment will be those who try to emulate Allah's creation with their images. ‘Ā’ishah said: So, we made one or two cushions out of it.
Buraydah ibn al-Husayb al-Aslami (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: Whenever the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) appointed a man to lead an army or a military detachment, he would advise him to fear Allah and treat well those Muslims who are with him. He would say: "Fight in the name of Allah and in the cause of Allah. Fight those who disbelieve in Allah. Fight, but do not steal from the spoils of war, do not be treacherous, do not mutilate, and do not kill children. When you meet your enemy from among the polytheists, call them to one of three things. Whichever of them they respond to, accept it from them and refrain from fighting them. Invite them to accept Islam, and if they respond, accept it from them and refrain from fighting them. Then invite them to leave their land and move to the land of the Emigrants (Madīnah). Tell them that if they do so, they will have the same rights and duties as the Emigrants. If they refuse to move, tell them they will be like the Muslim Bedouins, subject to the rulings of Allah, and they will have no share in war booty or spoils of war, unless they fight alongside the Muslims. If they refuse to enter Islam, ask them to pay the Jjizyah (poll tax paid by non-Muslims). If they do so, accept it from them and refrain from fighting them. But if they refuse, seek the help of Allah against them and fight them. If you besiege a group and they want you to give them the covenant of Allah and His Prophet, do not give them the covenant of Allah and His Prophet, instead give them your own covenant and the covenant of your companions, for if you violate your covenant and the covenant of your companions, that is easier than violating the covenant of Allah and the covenants of His Prophet. If you besiege a group of people and they want you to apply the judgment of Allah upon them, do not offer them that, but rather offer them your own judgment, because you do not know whether you would apply correctly the judgment of Allah upon them."
Narrated by MuslimBuraydah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that whenever the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) would send an army or a military detachment to fight the disbelievers, he would appoint a leader or emir to them to preserve their unity and take care of their affairs. He would advise him to be righteous and to take good care of those with him. Then he would guide him to what they should do with their enemies: they must avoid stealing from the spoils of war and booty, avoid treachery and breaking covenants, avoid mutilating the bodies, and avoid killing those under the age of puberty. They should start by calling the polytheists to Islam, and if they accept that, they should urge them to emigrate to Madīnah, telling them that they if they do, they will have the same rights and the responsibilities as those who emigrated before them. But, if they refuse to emigrate, they will be treated like the bedouin Muslims. On the other hand, if they refuse to embrace Islam, the Muslims should ask them to pay the Jizyah instead. If they refuse to pay the Jizyah, the Muslims should seek help of Allah and start fighting them. If Muslims besieged people in a castle, they were told not give them a covenant or promise in the name of Allah or His Messenger, but instead give their own covenant or promise, because if the covenant is broken, it would be less sinful to break someone’s covenant than to break that of Allah and His Messenger. Likewise, if besieged people request Muslims to apply the judgment of Allah upon them, Muslims should not implement a specific judgment and ascribe it to Allah, as they might not truly implement the exact judgment of Allah. Instead, they should implement their own best and reasonable judgment.
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Allah, the Exalted, said: 'Glory is My Izār and Pride is My Cloak. I will punish whoever contends with Me over either of them.'"
Narrated by MuslimGlory and Pride are two attributes exclusive to Allah, and none shares them with Him as one does not share the cloak and lower garment he wears with anybody else. Allah, the Almighty, made these two attributes inherent in Him. These two unique attributes cannot be ascribed to anyone besides Allah. So, whoever claims glory and pride has in fact vied with Allah in His Dominion. Anyone who does so shall be punished by Allah, the Almighty.
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah said: The son of Adam tells a lie against Me and he has no right to do so; and he insults Me and has no right to do so. His lying against Me is his saying: He will not resurrect me as He created me for the first time,' although the first creation was not easier for Me than resurrecting him. His insulting Me is his saying: 'Allah has begotten a son,' while I am The One, The Eternal Refuge, Who begets not nor was He begotten, and there is none like unto Me."
Narrated by BukhariIn the Hadīth Qudsi, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) clarifies that Allah Almighty informs about the polytheists and the disbelievers that they lie against Him and attribute imperfections and deficiencies to Him and they have no right to do so. As for lying against Allah: They claim that Allah will not bring them back to life after death as He created them at first from nothing. He refuted their claim saying that the One Who started the creation from nothing is capable of resurrecting them; rather, this is easier, although both the creation and resurrection are equally easy for Allah as He is competent over all things. As for their insulting Him: They say that He has a son, but He again refuted their claim, saying that He is the One and Only Who possesses all perfection in His names, attributes, and acts; the One Who is far above any imperfections and deficiencies; the Eternal Refuge Who needs none and Who is needed by everyone; He is the father of none and the child of none, and there is none comparable to Him, not an equal or peer.
Anas ibn Mālik (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah has appointed an angel in charge of the womb, and the angel says: 'O Lord, (it is) a sperm drop! O Lord, (it is now ) a clot! O Lord, (it is now) a piece of flesh.' Then, when Allah wills to complete its creation, the angel asks: 'O Lord, (will it be) a male or female? Wretched (an evil doer) or blessed (doer of good)? How much will his provisions be? How long will he live?' All that is written while the fetus is still in his mother's womb."
Narrated by Bukhari & MuslimThe Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) says, "Allah has appointed an angel in charge of the womb", i.e. Allah, the Almighty, has assigned an angel to be in charge of the womb, which is the place where a child is created inside his mother. "And the angel says: 'O Lord, (it is) a sperm drop!", i.e. O Lord, this is a sperm drop, which is the man's semen. The same applies to the next statement: "O Lord, (it is now ) a clot!", i.e. O Lord, this is a clot; which is thick blood stuck together. Then he says, "O Lord, (it is now) a piece of flesh", i.e. O Lord, this is a piece of flesh. It was explained in another narration that each of these development stages in the womb takes forty days. Then the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then, when Allah wills to complete its creation", i.e. the small piece of flesh because it is the last stage of development, and completing its creation is by blowing the soul into it after 120 days, as mentioned in another narration. Then the angel says: "O Lord, (will it be) a male or female?", i.e. so I can write it down. "Wretched or blessed?", i.e. is it a wretched one from the inhabitants of Hellfire, then I will write it down, or a happy one from the inhabitants of Paradise then I will write it down. "How much will his provisions be?", i.e. will it be little or abundant? "How long will he live?", i.e. will he have a long or short life? "All that is written while the fetus is still in his mother's womb", i.e. the angel will write down everything mentioned just as Allah orders him, while the fetus is still in its mother's womb.
Ibn ‘Abbās (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "The Kursi is the resting place of the feet, and the size of the Throne cannot be estimated."
Ibn Khuzaymah in At-Tawheed - ‘Abdullah ibn Ahmad in As-SunnahThe Kursi, which Allah has attributed to Himself, is the resting place of His feet. This interpretation of the 'Kursi' that Ibn ‘Abbās (may Allah be pleased with him) mentioned is widely known among Ahl As-Sunnah, and it was authentically reported from him. Ibn ‘Abbās was also reported to have interpreted the 'Kursi' as knowledge, but this is not proven to be transmitted on his authority. Also what was reported on the authority of al-Hasan that the 'Kursi' is the Throne, is weak and inauthentic. The Throne that Allah, the Almighty, is above is a great creation, and it is only Allah, the Almighty, who knows Its size and capacity.
