Jābir ibn ‘Abdullāh (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I was traveling on a camel and it got exhausted, and I decided to release it. However, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) caught up with me, supplicated for me, and struck it. Thereupon, it started to walk like never before. Then, he said: "Sell it to me for an ounce." I said: ‘No.’ He again said: "Sell it to me." So, I sold it to him for an ounce, but made the stipulation that I should be allowed to ride it back to my family. Then, when I reached home, I took the camel to him and he paid me its price on the spot. As I went back, he sent someone after me and said: "Do you think I bargained with you to take your camel? Take your camel and your dirhams; these are yours."
Narrated by Bukhari & MuslimJābir ibn ‘Abdullāh (may Allah be pleased with him) was with the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) in one of his battles. He was riding a camel that became too fatigued to keep up with the rest of the army. Jābir decided to release it and let it run away, given its lack of usefulness. The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) out of his mercy towards his Companions and followers, used to walk at the rear of the army, so as to care for those who are weak, helpless, or stranded. So, he reached Jābir while he was still on his exhausted camel. He supplicated for him and tapped his camel. Thereupon, his mild and merciful strike turned into power and support for the weak animal, and it started to walk faster and more vigorously than ever before. Then, seeking to make Jābir pleased and content and to engage him in a talk that would make the journey easier for him, the kind and gentle Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: “Sell it to me for an ounce.” Jābir (may Allah be pleased with him) desired more of the bounty of Allah, knowing that he would not be sinful if he refused to sell the camel to the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) as this does not fall under the obligatory obedience to him. Nonetheless, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) repeated his request, and so Jābir sold it to him for an ounce on condition that he should ride it back to Madīnah. The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) accepted his condition. When they arrived, Jābir took the camel to the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and gave it to him for the price they had agreed upon. When Jābir went away, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) sent someone to call him back. He returned to the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) who said: “Do you think I bargained with you to take your camel? Take your camel and your dirhams; these are yours", meaning: both are for you. This act should not be regarded as strange, as it came from the generous, well-mannered, and gentle Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him).
Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: A Jewish boy used to serve the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and he fell sick. So the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) came to visit him. He sat by his head and said to him: "Embrace Islam." The boy looked at his father who was with him and who then said: "Obey Abu al-Qāsim." So, he embraced Islam. The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) came out saying: "All praise is due to Allah who saved him from the Fire."
Narrated by BukhariThe Hadīth relates to us that a young boy from the Jews, where were living in Madīnah, used to serve the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him). The boy fell sick one day, and the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) visited him and offered him to embrace Islam. When the boy accepted it, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Praise be to Allah who saved him from the Fire."
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No slave covers another slave in this world except that Allah would cover him on the Day of Judgment."
Narrated by MuslimThe Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) clarifies that no Muslim covers his fellow Muslim in any matter except that Allah Almighty would cover him on the Day of Judgment, as every deed has a recompense that suits it. Allah's covering for him would be by covering his faults and sins without disclosing them to the people gathered on Judgement Day, or it could be by not holding him accountable for them and not mentioning them to him.
Abu Muslim al-Khawlāni reported: The dear and trustworthy one, as he is dear to me and I deem him trustworthy, ‘Awf ibn Mālik al-Ashja‘i (may Allah be pleased to him) said to me: We were with the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him), and we were nine, eight, or seven. He said: "Will you not give the pledge of allegiance to the Messenger of Allah?" We recently gave him a pledge of allegiance, so we said: We have already given you the pledge of allegiance, O Messenger of Allah. Then, he said: "Will you not give the pledge of allegiance to the Messenger of Allah?" We said: We have already given you the pledge of allegiance, O Messenger of Allah. Then, he said: "Will you not give the pledge of allegiance to the Messenger of Allah?" He said: We extended our hands and said: We have already given you the pledge of allegiance, O Messenger of Allah. So, for what should we give you the pledge of allegiance? He said: "To worship Allah and not associate any partners with Him; the five prayers; to obey - and he said in a low tone - and to not ask people for anything." Indeed, I saw some of these people not asking anyone to hand them even the whip if it fell from one of them."
Narrated by MuslimThe Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) was with some of the Companions and he asked them three times to give him the pledge of allegiance and covenant to be committed to certain things, which are: First: To worship Allah alone, by obeying His commands and avoiding His prohibitions, and not to associate any partners with Him. Second: To establish the five obligatory prayers every day and night. Third: To hear and obey those who are in charge of Muslims in what is good. Fourth: To ask Allah Almighty for all their needs without asking people for anything, and the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said it in a low voice. The Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) acted upon what they had given the pledge to do to the extent that made the Hadīth narrator say: Verily, I saw some of these Companions when the whip of any of them fell, he would not ask anyone to hand it to him; rather, he would dismount and pick it up himself.
Ibn Mas‘ūd (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He who is inflicted with poverty and seeks relief from people, he will not be relieved; whereras he who seeks relief from Allah, he will be given sustenance from Allah sooner or later."
Narrated by At-Termedhy - Narrated by Abu Daoud - Narrated by AhmadIbn Mas‘ūd informs us that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said that whoever is afflicted with poverty or destitution, and he seeks relief from the people, i.e. he expresses his poverty to them, complains about it, and asks them for help to relieve him from poverty: the result is that his poverty will not be relieved, and every time one of his needs is fulfilled, he is afflicted with another need that is harder than the first one. Whereas he who seeks relief from Allah and relies upon Him alone, Allah will soon relieve him of his poverty and distress with wealth and sufficiency in this life or later on in the Hereafter. Hadīth commentators said that this Hadīth conveys the same meaning as the verse: {And whoever fears Allah, He will make for him a way out. And will provide for him from where he does not expect. And whoever relies upon Allah - then He is sufficient for him} [Sūrat At-Talāq: 2-3]. Relief might be in the form of a wealthy relative who passes away thus he inherits from him, or in the form of money that Allah blesses him with, thus making him rich.
‘Abdullāh ibn ‘Abbās (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him said: “Allah has pardoned for my sake the mistakes and forgetfulness of my Ummah, and what they were coerced to do.”
Narrated by Ibn MajahAn aspect of the divine mercy is that Allah, the Almighty, forgives Muslims their unintended sins, their forgetfulness of obligations (noting that obligations should be fulfilled when remembered), as well as the sins and crimes which they commit under coercion. In this regard, Allah says: {And He has not placed upon you in the religion any hardship.} [Sūrat al-Hajj: 78]
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah made mercy into one hundred parts. He retained with Him ninety-nine parts and sent down to earth one part. Because of this one part, creatures show mercy towards each other, so much so that an animal lifts its hoof away from its youngster lest it should hurt it." Another narration reads: "Allah, the Almighty, has one hundred mercies, of which He sent down one mercy among mankind, jinn, animals, and vermin. It is by this mercy that they show compassion towards each other and are merciful to each other; and it is by this mercy that the beast is affectionate towards its offspring. Allah, the Almighty, deferred ninety-nine mercies with which He will bestow mercy on His slaves on the Day of Judgment." Salmān Al-Fārisi (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah, the Almighty, has one hundred mercies, out of which one mercy is used by His creatures to be merciful towards one another, while the ninety-nine mercies are kept for the Day of Judgment." Another narration reads: "Allah, the Almighty, created one hundred mercies on the Day He created the heavens and the earth. Each mercy can fill what is between the heavens and the earth. He placed one (mercy) on earth, and it is with it that a mother has compassion for her child and animals and birds have compassion for one another. On the Day of Judgment, He will complete them (the ninety-nine mercies) with that mercy."
Narrated by Muslim - Narrated by Bukhari & MuslimAllah, Blessed and Exalted, created mercy of one hundred parts. He sent one mercy down to this world and withheld ninety-nine parts for the Day of Judgment. Because of this single mercy, all of the creatures from among the humans, Jinn, animals, and insects, are merciful to one another. Even the horse that is known for its swiftness lifts its hoof away from its youngster lest it should hurt it. Because of this mercy, beasts are kind to their youngsters. Allah, Blessed and Exalted be He, has retained ninety-nine mercies to have mercy upon His slaves on the Day of Judgment. Second Hadīth: Allah, Blessed and Exalted, created one hundred mercies on the Day He created the heavens and the earth. Each mercy can fill the distance that is between the heavens and the earth. He placed one of them on earth, through which a mother has compassion for her child and animals and birds have compassion for one another. Then, on the Day of Judgment, Allah, the Lord of the worlds, will complete it with the ninety-nine mercies. So if all the great blessings of Allah, the Almighty, that He bestows on man in this world, which is basically built on anguish, are caused by one mercy, how then would the effect of one hundred mercies be in the Hereafter, which is the abode of eternity and recompense?!
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O people, indeed, Allah is good and does not accept except what is good. Indeed, Allah has commanded the believers with what he commanded the messengers. He says: {O messengers, eat from the lawful things and act righteously, for I am All-Knowing of what you do.} [Surat al-Mu’minūn: 51] And He says: {O you who believe, eat of the good things We have provided for you.} [Surat al-Baqarah: 172] Then he mentioned a man traveling for a long period; his hair is disheveled, and he is covered in dust. He stretches his hands toward the sky: O Lord, O Lord; while his food is unlawful, his drink is unlawful, his clothing is unlawful, and he is nourished by the unlawful. So, how could that be answered?"
Narrated by MuslimThe Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) informed that Allah is Good, Holy, Exalted far above deficiencies and shortcomings, and possesses the attributes of perfection. He accepts only the deeds, statements, and beliefs that are good, i.e., those that are sincerely devoted to Allah and that comply with the Prophet's guidance. No attempt should be made to get closer to Allah except through this. One of the greatest means to make the believer's deeds good is to eat good and lawfully earned food, and this, consequently, purifies his deeds. For this reason, Allah has commanded the believers with what He commanded the messengers about consuming what is lawful and offering righteous deeds, as He says: {O messengers, eat from the lawful things and act righteously, for I am All-Knowing of what you do.} [Surat al-Mu’minūn: 51] And He says: {O you who believe, eat of the good things We have provided for you.} [Surat al-Baqarah: 172] Then the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) warned against consuming what is unlawful, which invalidates deeds and makes them unacceptable despite utilizing the apparent means of acceptance, such as: First: Traveling for a long period to perform acts of obedience like Hajj, Jihad, maintaining kinship ties, etc. Second: Having disheveled hair because of not combing it, with the changed color of his skin and clothes because of dust, so, he is helpless. Third: Raising his hands to the sky in supplication. Fourth: Imploring Allah with His names persistently: O Lord, O Lord! Despite the existence of all these means of answering the supplication, he receives no response because his food, drink, and clothes are unlawful, and he is nourished by the unlawful. It is very unlikely for someone with such a description to have his supplication answered, and how could it be answered?!
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When Allah created the creation, He wrote in a book, which is with Him over the Throne: Verily, My mercy predominates over My anger." Another narration: "My mercy predominated My anger.'' Another narration: "My mercy preceded My anger.''
Narrated by Bukhari & MuslimWhen Allah created the creation, He wrote in a book, which is with Him over the Throne: Verily, My mercy predominates over My anger. In the Qur'an, He says: {And My mercy encompasses all things.} Indeed, this prompts Muslims not to despair or lose hope.
