‘Ā’ishah, Mother of the Believers, (may Allah be pleased with her) reported: The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and I used to take a ritual bath from one pot when we were both Junub (in a state of major ritual impurity). During my menses, he would order me to put on a lower garment, and he would fondle me. While in i'tikāf (seclusion for worship in the mosque), he would lean his head out to me, and I would wash it while I was menstruating.
Narrated by Bukhari & Muslim'Ā’ishah, Mother of the Believers (may Allah be pleased with her), reported some of her private affairs with the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him), including the fact that she used to take a ritual bath from Janābah (major ritual impurity) along with him (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) from one pot as they would take water therefrom together. Whenever he (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) wanted to have intimacy with her during her menses, he would order her to cover her body from the navel to the knee, and he would fondle her without copulation. During his I'tikāf in the mosque, he (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) used to lean his head out to 'Ā’ishah, and she would wash it while she was in her house and during her menses.
‘Ā'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported: Abdur-Rahmān ibn Abi Bakr visited the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) as I had the Prophet's head reclined on my chest. ‘Abdur-Rahmān (may Allah be pleased with him) had a fresh tooth-stick and was brushing his teeth with. The Messenger kept his eye on it, so I took the tooth-stick, gnawed it, freshened it, and then gave it to the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him). He brushed his teeth with it and I had never seen the Messenger brushing his teeth more beautifully. After finishing brushing his teeth, he lifted his hand, or his finger, and said three times: "To the Highest Companion." Then, he passed away." ‘Ā'ishah would say: "He died while his head was resting between my chest and chin."
Narrated by Bukhari‘Ā'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) recalls a story that demonstrates how much the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) loved the tooth-stick and how attached he was to it. That is to say that ‘Ā'ishah's brother ‘Abdur-Rahmān ibn Abi Bakr visited the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) when he was near death. He had a fresh tooth-stick in his hand, which he was brushing his teeth with. When the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) saw ‘Abdur-Rahmān with it, the sickness and pain he was experiencing did not distract him, because he liked it so much. He stared at the tooth-stick in ‘Abdur-Rahmān's hand as if he wanted it. ‘Ā'ishah realized that. So she took the tooth-stick from her brother, clipped off the top of the tooth-stick with her teeth, cleaned it and freshened it up and gave it to the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) so he brushed his teeth with it. ‘Ā'ishah said that she had never seen anyone brush their teeth more beautifully than the way the Prophet did then. After he finished brushing his teeth, he raised his finger, affirming the oneness of Allah, and chose to go and meet his Lord, the Most High. Then, he passed away. ‘Ā'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) was proud, and rightfully so, that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) passed away while his head was upon her chest.
‘Abdullāh ibn ‘Abbās (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) delayed the ‘Ishā' prayer until part of the night had passed and it was dark. ‘Umar came to him saying: "O Messenger of Allah, come to pray, the women and children have slept." He came out with his head dripping with water and said: "Had it not been hard for my Ummah, I would have commanded them to perform that prayer at this hour."
Narrated by Bukhari & MuslimThe Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) delayed the ‘Ishā' prayer until part of the night had passed and the women and children, who are likely unable to stay late at night, had gone to sleep. ‘Umar ibn al-Khattāb (may Allah be pleased with him) came to him and said: “Come to pray, for the women and children have slept.” The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) came out of his home and went to the mosque while his head was dripping with water from the ritual bath and he said: "Had it not been hard for my Ummah, I would have commanded them to perform that prayer at this hour." This indicates that it would have been better to delay ‘Ishā' prayer were it not for the hardship that would result from waiting for such a long time.
‘Ā’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) died when my house was void of any edible thing except for a small quantity of barley I had on a shelf and from which I kept eating it for a long time. Then when I measured what was left of it, it soon finished.
Narrated by Bukhari & Muslim‘Ā’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) informs in this Hadīth that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) died when her house was void of any edible thing except for a small quantity of barley she had on a shelf and from which she kept eating for a long time. Then when she measured what was left of it, it soon finished, which points to the Prophet's continued blessing in that small amount of food so long as it was not measured, a sign of reliance on Allah. Weighing things in buying and selling is required for the rights of people involved. But it is not recommended to measure your things as you spend or use them.
‘Ā'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) used to sleep at the beginning of the night and rise at its end to pray.
Narrated by Bukhari & Muslim‘Ā'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) says that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) used to sleep at the beginning of night, after praying the ‘Ishā' and would pray Qiyām at the end of the night, which is the second third of night. After finishing his prayer, he used to return to his bed and sleep, and that would be at the last sixth of the night to take some rest after the hard Qiyām. This sleep is also useful to restore one's energy for the Fajr prayer and the morning supplications. With this sleep, one wakes up refreshed. No one will discern that he was doing extra worship at night. Thus, ostentation on part of the worshiper would be out of the question. For this reason, the first call to the Fajr prayer is meant to wake up those who are asleep to pray the Witr if they have not done so and to urge those who are praying to take some rest in order to restore their energy.
‘Ā'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported: When the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) missed prayer at night because of sickness or otherwise, he would pray twelve Rak‘ahs during the daytime.
Narrated by MuslimIf the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) missed the voluntary night prayer because of sickness or something else, he would make it up in the daytime. At night he would pray eleven Rak‘ahs as Witr, but since the Witr time passed, he would pray it as an even number, i.e. twelve Rak‘ahs instead of eleven.
Abu Hāzim reported: I accompanied Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) for five years, and I heard him narrate from the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him), who said: "The Children of Israel were ruled by the prophets; whenever a prophet passed away, another would succeed him. Verily, there will be no prophet after me, but there will be many caliphs." They said: What do you command us to do? He said: "Fulfill the pledge of allegiance to the first, then the next. Give them their due rights, for Allah will ask them about what He entrusted to them."
Narrated by Bukhari & MuslimThe Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) informed that the Children of Israel were led by the prophets, who managed their affairs as rulers and leaders do with their subjects. Whenever corruption appeared among them, Allah would send them a prophet to set their matters right and remove the alterations they had made to the rulings. He added that there would be no prophet after him to do what they used to do. After me, there will be caliphs, and they will increase in number, and disputes and disagreements will arise among them. Thereupon, the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) asked the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him): What do you command us to do? He said: If a caliph is given the pledge of allegiance after another caliph, the pledge to the first one is valid and must be honored, while the pledge to the second is invalid, and it is forbidden for him to seek it. Give them their due rights, obey them, and live with them in obedience, except in matters that involve disobedience to Allah, for Allah will question them and hold them accountable for what they do to you.
Jābir ibn ‘Abdullāh and Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with both of them) reported that the Messenger (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: “My example and your example is that of a person who lit a fire, and grasshoppers and moths began to fall in it, while he is attempting to push them away. I am holding you back from the fire, but you are slipping from my hand."
Narrated by Muslim - Narrated by Bukhari & MuslimThe Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) explains that his role in his nation is like that of a man in the wilderness who has lit a fire, and then the grasshoppers and moths begin to fall into it. This is the case with most small insects when they see a fire, as they are attracted to the light of the fire, until they get burned in it. The Messenger (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) states that his role is to push people away from the fire (of hell), just as this man is trying to push the insects away from the fire that he lit up. However, people are persistently trying to fall into the fire by disobeying him and not following his Sunnah.
Ibn ‘Abbās (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) prayed over a grave after he had been buried, making four Takbīrs.
Narrated by Bukhari & MuslimThe Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) was created with good manners, such as mercy and compassion. Whenever he missed any of his Companions, he would ask about him and check his condition. He asked about a man, and the Companions told him that he had passed away. So he wished that they would have told him so that he could have prayed over him, for the Prophet's prayer would bring tranquility to the dead and dispel the darkness in which a deceased lies. As the man was already buried, the Prophet prayed over his grave in the same way he would pray over a dead person who was not yet buried. It should be noted that the Prophet's prayer over the grave does not mean that he stood over it. Rather, he stood next to it while facing it and performed the funeral prayer.
