﴿ ۞ يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ لَا تَتَّخِذُواْ ٱلۡيَهُودَ وَٱلنَّصَٰرَىٰٓ أَوۡلِيَآءَۘ بَعۡضُهُمۡ أَوۡلِيَآءُ بَعۡضٖۚ وَمَن يَتَوَلَّهُم مِّنكُمۡ فَإِنَّهُۥ مِنۡهُمۡۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يَهۡدِي ٱلۡقَوۡمَ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ ﴾
سورة المائدة
51. O you who believe! Take not the Jews and the Christians as Auliyâ’ (friends, protectors, helpers), they are but Auliyâ’ of each other. And if any amongst you takes them (as Auliyâ’), then surely he is one of them. Verily, Allâh guides not those people who are the Zâlimûn (polytheists and wrong-doers and unjust).
﴿ قَالَ إِنِّيٓ أُرِيدُ أَنۡ أُنكِحَكَ إِحۡدَى ٱبۡنَتَيَّ هَٰتَيۡنِ عَلَىٰٓ أَن تَأۡجُرَنِي ثَمَٰنِيَ حِجَجٖۖ فَإِنۡ أَتۡمَمۡتَ عَشۡرٗا فَمِنۡ عِندِكَۖ وَمَآ أُرِيدُ أَنۡ أَشُقَّ عَلَيۡكَۚ سَتَجِدُنِيٓ إِن شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ مِنَ ٱلصَّٰلِحِينَ ﴾
سورة القصص
27. He said: "I intend to wed one of these two daughters of mine to you, on condition that you serve me for eight years; but if you complete ten years, it will be (a favour) from you. But I intend not to place you under a difficulty. If Allâh wills, you will find me one of the righteous."
﴿ يَٰبَنِيٓ ءَادَمَ قَدۡ أَنزَلۡنَا عَلَيۡكُمۡ لِبَاسٗا يُوَٰرِي سَوۡءَٰتِكُمۡ وَرِيشٗاۖ وَلِبَاسُ ٱلتَّقۡوَىٰ ذَٰلِكَ خَيۡرٞۚ ذَٰلِكَ مِنۡ ءَايَٰتِ ٱللَّهِ لَعَلَّهُمۡ يَذَّكَّرُونَ ﴾
سورة الأعراف
26. O Children of Adam! We have bestowed raiment upon you to cover yourselves (screen your private parts) and as an adornment; and the raiment of righteousness, that is better. Such are among the Ayât (proofs, evidence, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) of Allâh, that they may remember (i.e. leave falsehood and follow truth[2]).
﴿ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَاتَيۡنَٰهُمُ ٱلۡكِتَٰبَ يَتۡلُونَهُۥ حَقَّ تِلَاوَتِهِۦٓ أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ يُؤۡمِنُونَ بِهِۦۗ وَمَن يَكۡفُرۡ بِهِۦ فَأُوْلَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلۡخَٰسِرُونَ ﴾
سورة البقرة
Those to whom We have given the Book recite it with its true recital.[39] They [are the ones who] believe in it. And whoever disbelieves in it - it is they who are the losers.
﴿ فَهَلۡ عَسَيۡتُمۡ إِن تَوَلَّيۡتُمۡ أَن تُفۡسِدُواْ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَتُقَطِّعُوٓاْ أَرۡحَامَكُمۡ ﴾
سورة محمد
So would you perhaps, if you turned away,[1504] cause corruption on earth and sever your [ties of] relationship?
﴿ فَقَالُوٓاْ أَنُؤۡمِنُ لِبَشَرَيۡنِ مِثۡلِنَا وَقَوۡمُهُمَا لَنَا عَٰبِدُونَ ﴾
سورة المؤمنون
They said, "Should we believe two men like ourselves while their people are for us in servitude?"
﴿ أَلَمۡ يَأۡتِكُمۡ نَبَؤُاْ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبۡلِكُمۡ قَوۡمِ نُوحٖ وَعَادٖ وَثَمُودَ وَٱلَّذِينَ مِنۢ بَعۡدِهِمۡ لَا يَعۡلَمُهُمۡ إِلَّا ٱللَّهُۚ جَآءَتۡهُمۡ رُسُلُهُم بِٱلۡبَيِّنَٰتِ فَرَدُّوٓاْ أَيۡدِيَهُمۡ فِيٓ أَفۡوَٰهِهِمۡ وَقَالُوٓاْ إِنَّا كَفَرۡنَا بِمَآ أُرۡسِلۡتُم بِهِۦ وَإِنَّا لَفِي شَكّٖ مِّمَّا تَدۡعُونَنَآ إِلَيۡهِ مُرِيبٖ ﴾
سورة إبراهيم
9. Has not the news reached you, of those before you, the people of Nûh (Noah), and ‘Âd, and Thamûd? And those after them? None knows them but Allâh. To them came their Messengers with clear proofs, but they put their hands in their mouths (biting them from anger) and said: "Verily, we disbelieve in that with which you have been sent, and we are really in grave doubt as to that to which you invite us (i.e. Islâmic Monotheism)."
﴿ وَمِنَ ٱلنَّاسِ مَن يَشۡتَرِي لَهۡوَ ٱلۡحَدِيثِ لِيُضِلَّ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ بِغَيۡرِ عِلۡمٖ وَيَتَّخِذَهَا هُزُوًاۚ أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ لَهُمۡ عَذَابٞ مُّهِينٞ ﴾
سورة لقمان
And of the people is he who buys the amusement of speech[1160] to mislead [others] from the way of Allāh without knowledge and who takes it [i.e., His way] in ridicule. Those will have a humiliating punishment.
﴿ وَلَقَدۡ عَلِمۡتُمُ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱعۡتَدَوۡاْ مِنكُمۡ فِي ٱلسَّبۡتِ فَقُلۡنَا لَهُمۡ كُونُواْ قِرَدَةً خَٰسِـِٔينَ ﴾
سورة البقرة
And you had already known about those who transgressed among you concerning the sabbath, and We said to them, "Be apes, despised."
﴿ وَمَا كَانَ لِنَفۡسٍ أَن تُؤۡمِنَ إِلَّا بِإِذۡنِ ٱللَّهِۚ وَيَجۡعَلُ ٱلرِّجۡسَ عَلَى ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يَعۡقِلُونَ ﴾
سورة يونس
And it is not for a soul [i.e., anyone] to believe except by permission of Allāh, and He will place defilement[541] upon those who will not use reason.
Abu Sa‘īd al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Beware! Avoid sitting on the roads." They said: "O Messenger of Allah, we cannot help sitting there, as these are our places where we talk to one another." He said: "If you insist on sitting there, then give the road its due rights." They said: "What are its rights?" He said: "Lowering the gaze, refraining from doing harm (to others), returning the greeting, enjoining what is good, and forbidding what is evil."
Narrated by Bukhari & Muslim
The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) warned his companions of sitting on the roads. They told him that this was indispensable. He said: if you refuse to comply and you must sit there, then you must give the road its due rights. When they asked him about the rights of the road, he instructed them that they should lower their gaze from looking at the women passing by them, refrain from hurting the passersby verbally or by actions, return the greeting to whomever greets them, enjoin what is good, and forbid the evil when they see it.
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Whoever is presented with basil should not decline it. Indeed, it is light to carry and pleasant to smell.”
Narrated by Muslim
Anyone who receives a gift of an aromatic object should accept it, because there is no difficulty in carrying it and likewise its scent is good.
‘Abdullah ibn ‘Amr (may Allah be pleased with him and his father) reported: A man asked the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him): Which deed in Islam is the best? He said: "Feeding people and extending the greeting of peace to those you know and those you do not know."

The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) was asked: What qualities of Islam are the best? He mentioned two qualities: First: Feeding the poor frequently, and this includes charity, gifts, hospitality, and banquets. The merit of feeding others is even more emphatic during times of famine and the rise in prices. Second: Extending the greeting of peace to every Muslim, whether you know him or not.
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The most despicable name in the sight of Allah is that of a man named the King of kings. There is no king but Allah." In another version: "The most wretched and most malicious person in the sight of Allah on the Day of Resurrection and the one who will incur His wrath most will be the person who used to be called the King of kings, for there is no king but Allah." Sufyān said: “Like Shahenshah (meaning: the King of kings).”

The Messenger (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) informs us in this Hadīth that the most despicable and meanest of people in the sight of Allah, the Almighty, is someone who has a name that projects meanings of glorification and pride that befit none but Allah, the Exalted, such as the King of kings. This signifies rivalry with Allah. A person called by such a name claims to be or is claimed to be a rival to Allah, the Almighty. Therefore, he is regarded as the most despicable and most malicious person in the sight of Allah or it is probably meant that he is one of the most hated of people. The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) makes it clear that there is no true King for this universe, including all its rulers and ruled, but the Almighty Allah. It is hoped this Hadīth will be a reminder to those who call people by certain names or titles without considering their meanings and implications, lest they would be subject to the evil consequence this Hadīth warns against. May Allah help all of us!
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) say: "An oath is a means for selling a commodity and a means for destroying the profit."

The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) warned against swearing oaths and doing so excessively, even if one is truthful in buying and selling. He informed that it may help in promoting goods and merchandise, but it diminishes and nullifies the blessing in profit and earnings. Allah Almighty may bring about ways through which this wealth is destroyed, whether by theft, fire, drowning, seizure, looting, or other means that lead to the loss of one's wealth.
Abu Sa‘īd and Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with both of them) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When three people set out on a journey, they should appoint one of them as their leader."
Narrated by Abu Daoud
The Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) commanded travelers to appoint one of them as their leader. It should be the best and most level-headed of them they appoint to manage their affairs, because if they do not appoint one of them as their leader, their affairs would become chaotic.
‘Abdullāh ibn ‘Abbās (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) visited a Bedouin while he was sick, and whenever he visited a sick person he would say: "No harm, (it will be) purification (from sins) if Allah wills."

Ibn ‘Abbās (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) visited a Bedouin while he was sick. Whenever he visited a sick person he would say: "No harm, it will be purification (from sins) if Allah wills." In other words, there will be no harm or hardship upon you, and your illness will be purification from your sins and expiation for your faults. Illness may also cause man's rank to be raised in the afterlife.
Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: A man said: "O Messenger of Allah, when a man amongst us meets a brother or a friend, should he bow to him?" He said: ‘No.’ He said: "Should he embrace and kiss him?" He said: ‘No.’ He said: "Should he take his hand and shake it?" He said: ‘Yes.’”

The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about whether a person should bow upon meeting someone else, and he said: He should not bow. He was further asked about whether he should hug and embrace him, and he replied in the negative. Then, the questioner asked him about whether he should shake hands with him, and he said: ‘Yes.’
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He who is asked something he knows and conceals it will have a bridle of fire put on him on the Day of Resurrection."

This Hadīth carries a stern warning about the concealment of knowledge and that if a person is asked about something that concerns the questioner as regards his religious matters, and he is duty-bound to answer him, yet he fails to answer and clarify the matter to him, Allah, the Almighty, will punish him in the Hereafter by putting a bridle of fire over his mouth. However, if the questioner poses the question for some other reason, like testing the one he asks, the asked one has the choice to answer him or not, without falling under the warning set out in the Hadīth.
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever swears by Al-Lāt and Al-‘Uzza should say: 'There is no god but Allah'. And whoever says to his companion 'Come and gamble with me' should give charity."

The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) warned of swearing by other than Allah, for a believer should only swear by Allah. He informs that whoever swears by other than Allah, like someone who says: By Al-Lāt and Al-‘Uzza - two idols that used to be worshipped during the Jāhiliyyah (pre-Islam period of ignorance) - should hasten to correct himself by saying: There is no god but Allah. This is to disavow Shirk and expiate for such swearing. Then, he (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) informed that if someone says to his companion "Come and gamble with me" - when two or more persons compete with one another and the winner takes the money involved, and each one should necessarily win or lose - he is recommended to give something in charity, as expiation for what he has called for.
Anyone who bears a calamity patiently and awaits Allah’s reward, Allah, the Exalted, will compensate him with better than what he lost either in himself or his family.
