﴿ وَٱخۡتِلَٰفِ ٱلَّيۡلِ وَٱلنَّهَارِ وَمَآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مِن رِّزۡقٖ فَأَحۡيَا بِهِ ٱلۡأَرۡضَ بَعۡدَ مَوۡتِهَا وَتَصۡرِيفِ ٱلرِّيَٰحِ ءَايَٰتٞ لِّقَوۡمٖ يَعۡقِلُونَ

سورة الجاثية

5. And in the alternation of night and day, and the provision (rain) that Allâh sends down from the sky, and revives therewith the earth after its death, and in the turning about of the winds (i.e. sometimes towards the east or north, and sometimes towards the south or west sometimes bringing glad tidings of rain etc., and sometimes bringing the torment), are signs for a people who understand.

﴿ وَنَادَىٰٓ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلنَّارِ أَصۡحَٰبَ ٱلۡجَنَّةِ أَنۡ أَفِيضُواْ عَلَيۡنَا مِنَ ٱلۡمَآءِ أَوۡ مِمَّا رَزَقَكُمُ ٱللَّهُۚ قَالُوٓاْ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ حَرَّمَهُمَا عَلَى ٱلۡكَٰفِرِينَ

سورة الأعراف

The people of the Fire will call out to the people of Paradise, “Send down to us some water or any provision that Allah has given you.” They will say, “Allah has forbidden both to the disbelievers,

﴿ وَأَنجَيۡنَا مُوسَىٰ وَمَن مَّعَهُۥٓ أَجۡمَعِينَ

65. And We saved Mûsâ (Moses) and all those with him.

﴿ بَلِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ فِي تَكۡذِيبٖ

سورة البروج

But the disbelievers are in persistent denial,

﴿ قَالُوٓاْ إِنَّآ أُرۡسِلۡنَآ إِلَىٰ قَوۡمٖ مُّجۡرِمِينَ

سورة الذاريات

They said, “We have been sent to a wicked people,

﴿ ۞ أَفَمَن يَعۡلَمُ أَنَّمَآ أُنزِلَ إِلَيۡكَ مِن رَّبِّكَ ٱلۡحَقُّ كَمَنۡ هُوَ أَعۡمَىٰٓۚ إِنَّمَا يَتَذَكَّرُ أُوْلُواْ ٱلۡأَلۡبَٰبِ

سورة الرعد

Is the one who knows that what has been sent down from your Lord is the truth like the one who is blind[21]? None will take heed except the people of understanding,

﴿ ۞ قَالَتۡ رُسُلُهُمۡ أَفِي ٱللَّهِ شَكّٞ فَاطِرِ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۖ يَدۡعُوكُمۡ لِيَغۡفِرَ لَكُم مِّن ذُنُوبِكُمۡ وَيُؤَخِّرَكُمۡ إِلَىٰٓ أَجَلٖ مُّسَمّٗىۚ قَالُوٓاْ إِنۡ أَنتُمۡ إِلَّا بَشَرٞ مِّثۡلُنَا تُرِيدُونَ أَن تَصُدُّونَا عَمَّا كَانَ يَعۡبُدُ ءَابَآؤُنَا فَأۡتُونَا بِسُلۡطَٰنٖ مُّبِينٖ

سورة إبراهيم

Their messengers said, "Can there be doubt about Allāh, Creator of the heavens and earth? He invites you that He may forgive you of your sins, and He delays you [i.e., your death] for a specified term." They said, "You are not but men like us who wish to avert us from what our fathers were worshipping. So bring us a clear authority [i.e., evidence]."

﴿ أَلَمۡ يَعۡلَمُوٓاْ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ يَقۡبَلُ ٱلتَّوۡبَةَ عَنۡ عِبَادِهِۦ وَيَأۡخُذُ ٱلصَّدَقَٰتِ وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلتَّوَّابُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ

سورة التوبة

Do they not know that it is Allah Who accepts the repentance of His slaves and accepts their charities, and that it is Allah Who is the Accepter of Repentance, Most Merciful?

﴿ وَٱلصُّبۡحِ إِذَآ أَسۡفَرَ

سورة المدثر

And [by] the morning when it brightens,

﴿ وَلَا تَتَّخِذُوٓاْ أَيۡمَٰنَكُمۡ دَخَلَۢا بَيۡنَكُمۡ فَتَزِلَّ قَدَمُۢ بَعۡدَ ثُبُوتِهَا وَتَذُوقُواْ ٱلسُّوٓءَ بِمَا صَدَدتُّمۡ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ وَلَكُمۡ عَذَابٌ عَظِيمٞ

سورة النحل

And do not take your oaths as [means of] deceit between you, lest a foot slip after it was [once] firm, and you would taste evil [in this world] for what [people] you diverted from the way of Allāh,[714] and you would have [in the Hereafter] a great punishment.

Jābir ibn ‘Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him and his father) reported that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Beware of oppression, for oppression will be layers of darkness on the Day of Judgment; beware of stinginess, as stinginess ruined those before you. It incited them to shed their blood and regard the unlawful as lawful."

The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) warned against oppression, which includes oppressing people, oppressing oneself, and committing oppression regarding the right of Allah Almighty, i.e., refraining from giving each one his due right. He stated that oppression will be layers of darkness on the Day of Judgment for those who commit it, given the hardships and horrors that will occur to them on that day. He also forbade stinginess, which refers to extreme miserliness and avarice; an example is showing negligence in fulfilling financial rights and an intense keenness to achieve worldly gains. This kind of oppression ruined those who preceded us from the previous nations as it drove them to kill each other and to permit what Allah has prohibited.

Abu Umāmah al-Bāhili (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I guarantee a house on the outskirts of Paradise for the one who refrains from arguing even if he is right, and a house in the middle of Paradise for the one who refrains from lying even if he is joking, and a house in the highest part of Paradise for the one who perfects his manners."

The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) informed us that he guarantees a house in the surroundings of Paradise for the one who refrains from arguing even if he is right, because arguing is a waste of time and causes enmity and hatred among people. He also guarantees a house in the middle part of Paradise for the one who refrains from lying even if he is joking and a house in the highest part of Paradise for the one who improves and perfects his manners by striving to discipline himself.

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about the foremost deed that leads people to Paradise, and he replied: "Fear of Allah and good character." Then, he was asked about the most things that lead people into Hellfire, and he said: "The tongue and the private parts."

The most means leading people to Paradise are fear of Allah and good manners. To fear Allah is to shun all kinds of prohibitions, and good character is shown in dealing with people; and the least of it is to avoid harming others, while the highest of it is doing good to the one who misbehaved with you. On the other hand, the most causes that lead people into Hellfire are the mouth and the private parts, which often prompt one to exceed the limits concerning his Lord and the people.

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: “On the Day of Resurrection, there will be three categories of people whom Allah will not speak to, purify, or look at, and they will receive a painful punishment. These are: an aged man who commits adultery, a king who often lies, and a destitute person who is arrogant.”

There are three categories of people that Allah will not speak to on the Day of Resurrection, nor will He look at or purify from their sins, and they will receive a painful torment. These are: an aged man who commits adultery, a ruler who lies, and a poor person who is arrogant and looks down on others.

‘Abdullāh ibn Mas‘ūd (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Anyone has an atom's weight of arrogance in his heart will not enter Paradise." A man said:" What if one likes his clothes and shoes to look good?" He said: "Verily, Allah is beautiful and He loves beauty. Arrogance is to reject the truth and look down on people."

Ibn Mas‘ūd (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Anyone has an atom's weight of arrogance in his heart will not enter Paradise." This Hadīth conveys a stern warning, which requires a detailed explanation based on Shariah evidence. If one's arrogance involves rejection of the truth and hatred towards it, this one is a disbeliever who will abide eternally in Hellfire and will never enter Paradise. Allah, the Exalted, said: {That is because they disliked what Allah revealed, so He rendered worthless their deeds} [Sūrat Muhammad: 9]. If one's arrogance is about behaving haughtily and proudly towards people but does not prevent him from worshiping Allah, he will be subject to the warning mentioned in the Hadīth and thus will not enter Paradise with the first batch admitting it without being punished beforehand. When the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said this Hadīth, a man said: "O Messenger of Allah, what if one likes his clothes and shoes to look good, would this be an act of arrogance?" So the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah is beautiful and He loves beauty", meaning that He is beautiful in His essence, actions, and attributes. Everything comes from Allah, the Almighty, is beautiful and not ugly in the least. "He loves beauty", means that He loves man to look beautiful in his clothes, shoes, body, and all his affairs. That is because beautification attracts people to the person and makes them love him; unlike ugliness in one's hair or clothes.

Mu‘āwiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that he heard the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) say: "If you pursue the faults of the Muslims, you will surely corrupt them, or you will nearly corrupt them.”

Indeed, if you pursue the faults of the Muslims by spying on them, searching for their deficiencies, digging up their faults that they conceal, and publicly expose them, you will be disgracing them and removing their covering. By doing so, people will no longer feel ashamed to commit similar sins openly after they used to do them secretly with nobody knowing about them except Allah, the Almighty.

Abu Khirāsh Hadrad al-Aslami (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Whoever forsakes his brother for a year is like shedding his blood.”

The one who abandons his brother for a year for no Shariah-approved excuse deserves punishment, just like shedding his blood . The punishment due here is a discretionary punishment, out of retribution and deterrence. Nevertheless, if there is a Shariah-approved excuse, like practicing religious innovations and immoralities, then forsaking such people must continue as long as they do not repent and return to the truth.

Jābir (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I heard the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Verily, the devil has lost hope of being worshiped by those who engage in prayer in the Arabian Peninsula, but has not lost hope of sowing dissension between them."

The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) informed that Satan had lost hope that the believers who engage in prayer in the Arabian Peninsula would return to worshiping him and to prostrating to idols. However, he still desires and is still exerting effort and working hard to sow dissension between them by instigating disputes, hostility, wars, strife, etc.

Abu Sa‘īd al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A man must not look at another man's ‘Awrah (must-cover body part), nor must a woman look at another woman's ‘Awrah; neither should two men lie undressed under one attire, nor should two women lie undressed under one attire."

The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) forbade the man from looking at another man's ‘Awrah and the woman from looking at another woman's ‘Awrah. ‘Awrah: it is whatever one feels shy if uncovered. Man's ‘Awrah is the area between his navel and the knee. As for the woman, she is all ‘Awrah with regards to foreign men, but with regards to other women and her Mahram men, she can uncover what is usually exposed while doing house chores. Moreover, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) forbade the man from lying undressed with another man in one garment or under one cover, and the woman from lying undressed with another woman in one garment or under one cover because this can lead each of them to touch the ‘Awrah of the other, which is forbidden, just as looking at the ‘Awrah is forbidden; rather, touching the ‘Awrah is more strictly forbidden given the fact that it leads to graver consequences.

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: “‘Do you know who is the bankrupt?" They said: "The bankrupt among us is the one who has neither money nor property." He said: "The bankrupt in my Ummah is the one who will come on the Day of Judgment with prayer, fasting and Zakat, but since he hurled abuse at others, accused others of committing adultery without evidence, unlawfully consumed the wealth of others, and shed the blood of others and beat others, his good deeds will be credited to the accounts of others (who suffered at his hands), and if his good deeds fall short to clear his account, others' sins will be cast on him and he will then be thrown in the Fire."

The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) asked the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them): Do you know who is the bankrupt? They gave him the expected answer, which is that the bankrupt is the poor person who has no wealth or property. He then told them that the bankrupt in this nation (of Muslims) is the one who comes on the Day of Judgment with abundant good deeds, such as praying, fasting, and giving charity; but with an account of bad deeds like insulting others, beating others, consuming others’ wealth without right, accusing others of committing immoral acts, and killing others. All of them will seek retribution, for whatever rights they do not receive in the life of this world they will receive in the Hereafter. So, retribution will be exacted against him and each of them will take some of his good deeds. If his good deeds are not enough to settle the score, then some of their own evil deeds will be cast on him then he will be thrown in the fire of Hell.

Anyone who bears a calamity patiently and awaits Allah’s reward, Allah, the Exalted, will compensate him with better than what he lost either in himself or his family.
