O you who believe, do not take My enemies and your enemies as allies, offering them friendship even though they rejected the truth that has come to you, and they have driven out the Messenger and yourselves [from Makkah] simply because you believe in Allah, your Lord – if you have emigrated[1] to struggle in My cause and seek My pleasure. How can you disclose secrets [of the believers], showing them friendship, when I know best all that you conceal and all that you reveal? Whoever among you does that has truly strayed from the straight path.

سورة البقرة
line

Fight them until there is no more persecution[92] and religion is only for Allah. But if they desist, let there be no aggression except against the oppressors.

Ka‘b ibn Mālik (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I saw the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) eating with three fingers, and when he finished eating, he would lick them.

Narrated by Muslim
line

The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) used to eat with three fingers, and he wouldn't use his other fingers, except when necessary. And, when he had finished eating, he would lick his fingers.

Umm Salāmah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported: I said: "O Messenger of Allah, would I be rewarded for Abu Salāmah's children that I spend on them so as not to leave them like this and like that, while they are my children?" He said: "Yes, you will be rewarded for what you spend on them."

Narrated by Bukhari & Muslim
line

Umm Salāmah (may Allah be pleased with her) asked the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) if she would get a reward in the Hereafter for providing for her children from Abu Salāmah, thus not letting them spread in pursuit of sustenance, or she would not be rewarded because she does that out of compassion for her children. The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) told her that she would be rewarded.

‘Abdullāh ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: “The believer who mixes with people and patiently bears their annoyance is better than the believer who does not mix with people or patiently bear their annoyance.”

Narrated by Ibn Majah - Narrated by At-Termedhy - Narrated by Ahmad
line

This Hadīth proves the virtue of mixing with people and socializing with them. It also proves that the believer who mixes and socializes with people, and who patiently bears any harm he may suffer as a result of offering them advice and guidance is better than the one who does not mix or socialize with people preferring to live alone. That is because the latter does not bear the people’s annoyance or harm.

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A dinar you spend in the cause of Allah, a dinar you spend on (freeing) a slave, a dinar you give in charity to a needy person, and a dinar you spend on your family; the greatest in reward is the one you spend on your family."

Narrated by Muslim
line

The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) clarified that the channels of spending in good causes are many, including spending in Jihad for the sake of Allah, in manumitting slaves, on the needy, and on one's family and dependents. The best of these is the spending on one's family because it is obligatory. The reward for obligatory spending is greater than that for recommended spending.

Iyās ibn ‘Abdullāh ibn Abi Dhubāb (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: ''Do not beat Allah's handmaidens.'' Later, ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and said: ''Women have become emboldened towards and disobedient to their husbands.'' So he gave a license to beat them. Consequently, many women came round the families of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) complaining about their husbands. So the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: ''Many women have gone round Muhammad's families complaining about their husbands. Those (husbands) are not the best of you.''

Narrated by Ibn Majah - Narrated by Abu Daoud - Ad-Daarimi
line

The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) forbade beating women. Later, ‘Umar ibn al-Khattāb (may Allah be pleased with him) came to him and said: ''Women have become emboldened towards and disobedient to their husbands.'' So the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) allowed beating women, not severely, in special cases like disobedience. Therefore, many women complained to the wives of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) complaining that their husbands beat them severely, thus abusing the Prophet's license. So the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said that those men who were beating their wives severely were not the best of men. A reason for that judgment is that Allah, the Almighty, made beating the last resort in dealing with a woman's disobedience. He said: {...But those [wives] from whom you fear arrogance - [first] advise them; [then if they persist], forsake them in bed; and [finally], strike them} [Sūrat An-Nisā': 34]. These three penalties are not to be combined, but they should be used in order: first, admonition, and then forsaking in bed. If these do not work, then beating is allowed to discipline the wife, not to take revenge on her.

Mu‘ādh ibn Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whenever a woman harms her husband in this world, his wife from the Houris of Paradise says: 'Do not harm him! May Allah destroy you! He is but a passing guest with you, and he will soon leave you to join us.'"

Narrated by Ibn Majah - Narrated by At-Termedhy - Narrated by Ahmad
line

The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) forbade the wife from harming her husband, because the husband is but a guest in this world and he will soon depart to the Hereafter where he will enter Paradise and join his Houri wives therein.

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If I were to order anyone to prostrate himself before another, I would have ordered the wife to prostrate herself before her husband."

Narrated by At-Termedhy
line

The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said that if he were going to order a human being to prostrate himself to another human being, then he would have ordered the wife to prostrate herself to her husband due to the great right that her husband has over her. However, prostrating oneself before other than Allah, the Almighty, is absolutely prohibited.

‘Abdullāh ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) prohibited Shighār marriage. Shighār marriage means that a man gives his daughter in marriage to another on condition that the other gives his daughter to him in marriage without any dower being paid by either.

Narrated by Bukhari & Muslim
line

The basic principle in a marriage contract is that it is not fulfilled unless it includes a dowry for the woman which she receives in return for offering herself to her husband (for sexual enjoyment). For this reason, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) prohibited this type of pre-Islamic marriage called Shighār, by which the guardians used to wrong women under their care. They would marry off the women under their care without a dowry which benefits the women. Rather, they used those women for fulfilling their own desires and lusts by giving the woman under their care in marriage to a husband, in return for marrying the woman under the care of that husband without a dowry as well. This type of marriage involves injustice, because the guardians make their womenfolk lawful to men in a way other than that legislated by Allah. Anything of this sort is impermissible and invalid.

‘Ā'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported: Once the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) entered upon me while a man was in my house. He said: "O ‘Ā'ishah, who is this (man)?" I replied: "He is my brother from breastfeeding." He said: "O ‘Ā'ishah, be careful who you (women) count as your brothers from breastfeeding, for the breastfeeding (that makes marriage prohibited) is only that which satisfies hunger (takes place in the suckling period, the first two years of one's life)."

Narrated by Bukhari & Muslim
line

The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) entered upon ‘Ā'ishah and found her brother from breastfeeding, whom he did not know, with her. So, his facial expression changed, in dislike of that situation, and out of jealously for his female relatives. ‘Ā'ishah knew the reason why his facial expression had changed, so she told him that the man was her brother from breastfeeding. Thereupon, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: O ‘Ā'ishah, make sure of those whom you consider your brothers from breastfeeding, because there are some types of breastfeeding that do not make marriage prohibited. It is necessary that the breastfeeding nourishes the child and grows it muscles and strengthens its bones. This only occurs during the first two years of the child's life, when the he is in need of breast milk and feeds on nothing else. At this time, the child becomes part of the breastfeeding mother, and is considered as one of her own children. Thus, the prohibition of marriage is established, i.e. he becomes a Mahram for her and her family. This means that she must not put on her Hijab in his presence, he can sit alone with her, and he can be her Mahram on traveling. This includes the breastfeeding mother, her husband, their children, their siblings, and their mothers and fathers.

Anas ibn Mālik (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) saw the trace of saffron on ‘Abdur-Rahmān ibn ‘Awf so he said: "What is this?" He replied: "O Messenger of Allah, I married a woman." He asked: "How much did you give her as dowry?" He replied: "A date seed weight of gold." He then said: "May Allah grant you blessing. Hold a wedding feast, even if only with a sheep."

Narrated by Bukhari & Muslim
line

The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) saw some traces of saffron on ‘Abdur-Rahmān ibn ‘Awf, and normally it is preferable for men to apply such types of perfume whose scent is evident, but their traces are unseen. So the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) asked him about this disapprovingly. ‘Abdur-Rahmān told him that he was recently married and some of his wife's perfume left traces on him, so the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) excused him for that. Since the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) was constantly gracious and kind with them and always used to ask about their affairs to approve their good deeds, and prohibit them from the bad ones, therefore he asked ‘Abdur-Rahmān about the dowry he paid and he replied that it was equal to a date seed's weight worth of gold. Then the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) supplicated for him and ordered him to hold a wedding feast because of his marriage, even if it was with one sheep only.

It shows that the prohibited lusts are doors to hellfire; and it means following one’s desires that violate the Sharia
