55. "Do you practise your lusts on men instead of women? Nay, but you are a people who behave senselessly."

﴿ إِذۡ رَءَا نَارٗا فَقَالَ لِأَهۡلِهِ ٱمۡكُثُوٓاْ إِنِّيٓ ءَانَسۡتُ نَارٗا لَّعَلِّيٓ ءَاتِيكُم مِّنۡهَا بِقَبَسٍ أَوۡ أَجِدُ عَلَى ٱلنَّارِ هُدٗى

سورة طه

When he saw a fire, he said to his family, “Stay here. I have spotted a fire; I may bring you a flaming brand from it, or find some guidance at the fire[3].”

﴿ وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱسۡتُضۡعِفُواْ لِلَّذِينَ ٱسۡتَكۡبَرُواْ بَلۡ مَكۡرُ ٱلَّيۡلِ وَٱلنَّهَارِ إِذۡ تَأۡمُرُونَنَآ أَن نَّكۡفُرَ بِٱللَّهِ وَنَجۡعَلَ لَهُۥٓ أَندَادٗاۚ وَأَسَرُّواْ ٱلنَّدَامَةَ لَمَّا رَأَوُاْ ٱلۡعَذَابَۚ وَجَعَلۡنَا ٱلۡأَغۡلَٰلَ فِيٓ أَعۡنَاقِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْۖ هَلۡ يُجۡزَوۡنَ إِلَّا مَا كَانُواْ يَعۡمَلُونَ

Those who were oppressed will say to those who were arrogant, “Rather, [it was your] conspiracy of night and day when you were ordering us to disbelieve in Allah and to set up rivals to Him.” They will hide their remorse when they see the punishment, and We will put shackles around the necks of those who disbelieved. Will they be recompensed except for what they used to do?

﴿ وَمِنۡ ءَايَٰتِهِۦ خَلۡقُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَٱخۡتِلَٰفُ أَلۡسِنَتِكُمۡ وَأَلۡوَٰنِكُمۡۚ إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَأٓيَٰتٖ لِّلۡعَٰلِمِينَ

سورة الروم

And of His signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth and the diversity of your languages and your colors. Indeed in that are signs for those of knowledge.

﴿ إِنَّ وَلِـِّۧيَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِي نَزَّلَ ٱلۡكِتَٰبَۖ وَهُوَ يَتَوَلَّى ٱلصَّٰلِحِينَ

196. Verily, my Walî (Protector, Supporter, and Helper) is Allâh Who has revealed the Book (the Qur’ân), and He protects (supports and helps) the righteous.

﴿ مَن يَأۡتِيهِ عَذَابٞ يُخۡزِيهِ وَيَحِلُّ عَلَيۡهِ عَذَابٞ مُّقِيمٌ

To whom will come a torment disgracing him and on whom will descend an enduring punishment."

﴿ مَّا كَانَ مُحَمَّدٌ أَبَآ أَحَدٖ مِّن رِّجَالِكُمۡ وَلَٰكِن رَّسُولَ ٱللَّهِ وَخَاتَمَ ٱلنَّبِيِّـۧنَۗ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ بِكُلِّ شَيۡءٍ عَلِيمٗا

سورة الأحزاب

Muhammad is not the father of any of your men[38], but he is the Messenger of Allah and the seal of the prophets. And Allah is All-Knowing of everything.

﴿ وَمَآ أَسۡـَٔلُكُمۡ عَلَيۡهِ مِنۡ أَجۡرٍۖ إِنۡ أَجۡرِيَ إِلَّا عَلَىٰ رَبِّ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ

سورة الشعراء

145. "No reward do I ask of you for it (my Message of Islâmic Monotheism); my reward is only from the Lord of the ‘Âlamîn (mankind, jinn and all that exists).

﴿ يَقۡدُمُ قَوۡمَهُۥ يَوۡمَ ٱلۡقِيَٰمَةِ فَأَوۡرَدَهُمُ ٱلنَّارَۖ وَبِئۡسَ ٱلۡوِرۡدُ ٱلۡمَوۡرُودُ

سورة هود

He will be at the forefront of his people on the Day of Resurrection, leading them into the Fire. What a terrible place to be led to!

﴿ لِيَكۡفُرُواْ بِمَآ ءَاتَيۡنَٰهُمۡۚ فَتَمَتَّعُواْ فَسَوۡفَ تَعۡلَمُونَ

34. So as to be ungrateful for the graces which We have bestowed on them. Then enjoy (your short life); but you will come to know.

Ibn ‘Abbās (may Allah be pleased with him and his father) reported: The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There are two blessings in which many people incur loss: health and free time."

The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) informed about two great blessings that Allah bestows upon man, in which many people suffer loss because they use them inappropriately. When a person is blessed with both health and free time but is overcome by laziness in worship, he is among the losers, and this is the case with most people. However, if a person uses his free time and health in obeying Allah, he is the winner, for this world is the cultivation ground for the Hereafter, and in it lies the trade whose profit will be realized in the Hereafter. Free time is followed by preoccupation, and health is followed by sickness; and if nothing else except old age, it would suffice as a reminder.

‘Abdullāh ibn Mas‘ūd (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Hellfire will be brought on that Day (the Day of Resurrection) with seventy thousand bridles; and with each bridle, there will be seventy thousand angels pulling it."

Hellfire will be brought on the Day of Resurrection pulled by seventy thousand ropes. Each rope will be pulled by seventy thousand angels.

Ibn Mas‘ūd (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Shall I tell you what '‘ada' is? It is calumny which is committed among the people."

The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) wished to warn his nation against calumny and talebearing, which is telling people what others say about them with the intention of causing ill feelings and creating a rift between them. The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) started his speech with a question in order to grab his listeners' attention. He asked them: "Shall I tell you what '‘ada' is? This term has also been interpreted to mean magic. Then he answered this question saying: "‘Ada" is to circulate the ill-speech that people make against each other. This has the same effect of magic in terms of the corruption and harm it causes among people. It turns people against each other, severs ties that were once strong, and fills the hearts with anger and resentment, as witnessed nowadays.

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Wretched is the slave of the dinar! Wretched is the slave of the dirham! Wretched is the slave of Khamīsah (a kind of fine garments)! Wretched is the slave of velvet! If given, he is pleased, but if not, he is displeased. May he be wretched and may he relapse, and if he is pierced with a thorn, may he not find anyone to take it out for him. Tūba (a tree in Paradise) is for a slave who holds the reins of his horse to strive in Allah's cause, with his hair unkempt and feet covered with dust: if he is appointed as a guard, he accepts his post with satisfaction, and if he is appointed in the vanguard, he accepts his post with satisfaction; (he is so simple and humble that) if he asks for permission, he is not permitted, and if he intercedes, his intercession is not accepted."

In this Hadīth, the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) says that there are people who are fully overwhelmed by the worldly life, for which they pay their utmost attention. Such people will be led to destruction and loss. They are characterized by their deep greed for the worldly life; if one of them is given of its pleasures, he is pleased, and if not, he is displeased. There are other people, however, who aim to please Allah and seek the Hereafter. They have no desire for prestige or fame. They only seek to obey Allah and His Messenger. Such people do not care about how they look, they are satisfied with the place they are placed in, they are insignificant in the eyes of people, and they are distant from the people of authority. If one of them seeks permission to enter upon a person of power, he is not granted permission, and if he intercedes, he is not given such a privilege. However, he is destined to Paradise, which is definitely the most excellent reward.

Abu Mūsa al-Ash‘ari (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah, ‎peace be upon him, said: "Three will not enter Paradise: the habitual drinker of alcohol, the one who severs the ties of kinship, and the one who believes in sorcery. ‎" ‎

The Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) informs us in this ‎Hadīth that there are three categories of people who will not enter Paradise because of the ‎major sins that they commit, all of which are harmful to themselves and the whole ‎community: ‎The first of them is the one involved in habitual drinking of alcohol, which obscures one's reason, magnanimity, and even humanity. ‎The second is the one who breaks the ties of kinship, because in so doing, he causes enmity and ‎disunity between the members of his family - the result of this may be that one would live by himself, ‎outcast and ignored by the closest people to him. ‎The third is the one who believes in sorcery, which also includes fortune-telling, because this ‎encourages cheating, fraud, and deception for the purpose of stealing the money of the ‎people. The threat here does not apply to the one who merely believes that sorcery has ‎effect, because it undoubtedly has effect. Nevertheless, whoever believes that sorcery can ‎transform the nature of things (transform wood into gold for example) is certainly meant by ‎this threat because no one can do this except Allah, the Almighty. ‎

Abu Sa‘īd al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Soon there will come a time when the best property of a Muslim will be sheep that he will take to the mountaintops and the places of rainfall so as to flee with his religion from tribulations."

The Hadīth indicates the preference of living in isolation at times of tribulation, unless a person has the ability to remove such tribulation. In this case, he would be obliged to strive to remove it, either as an individual religious duty or a collective duty (i.e. if someone undertook and competed it, it is waived from the obligation of the others) according to the situation and ability. As to the times that are free of tribulation, scholars held different opinions regarding which is better: to isolate oneself from people or to interact with them? The chosen opinion is that interaction is better for the one who believes that he would most likely not yield to temptations of committing sin. “to flee with his religion from tribulations” means to escape for fear that his religious commitment would be affected. For this reason, man was commanded to migrate from the lands of infidelity to the lands of Islam, and from countries where immorality is rampant to those where righteousness prevails. So, this should be done when people and times change.

Abu Sa‘īd al-Khudri and Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with both of them) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A caller will call out: You will be healthy and never fall ill; you will live and never die; you will be young and never grow old; you will live in comfort and never suffer." This is His saying: {They will be called, “This is Paradise that you are made to inherit for what you used to do.”} [Surat al-A‘rāf: 43]

The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned that a caller would call the dwellers of Paradise while they are in it, leading a life of ease and comfort: You will be healthy and will never get sick in Paradise, not even a minor sickness; you will live and never die therein, even if it is sleep that is minor death; you will be young and never grow old therein; and you will enjoy a life of comfort and never be sad or miserable therein. This is the meaning of the verse in which Allah Almighty says: {They will be called, “This is Paradise that you are made to inherit for what you used to do.”} [Surat al-A‘rāf: 43]

Sohaib (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When the dwellers of Paradise enter Paradise, he said: Allah Almighty will say: Do you want Me to give you anything more? They will say: Have You not brightened our faces? Have You not made us enter Paradise and saved us from Hellfire? He said: He will then lift the veil, and out of all the things they are given, nothing will be dearer to them than looking at their Almighty Lord."

The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) informs that when the dwellers of Paradise enter Paradise, Allah Almighty will say to them: Do you want Me to give you anything more? All the dwellers of Paradise will say: Have You not brightened our faces? Have You not made us enter Paradise and saved us from Hellfire? Allah will, then, remove and lift the veil, and His veil is Light, and out of all the things they are given, nothing will be dearer to them than looking at their Almighty Lord.

Abu Mūsa (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Verily, the believer in Paradise will have a tent made of a single hollow pearl, the length of which is sixty miles. The believer will have wives therein whom he will visit in turn, and they will not see each other."

The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) informed about part of the bliss of Paradise, stating that the believer will have a large and spacious tent in Paradise, made from a single hollow pearl. Its width and height will span sixty miles in the sky. In each side, part, and corner of its four corners there will be wives, and they will not see one another. The believer will visit them in turn.

Abu Sa‘īd (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "'The dwellers of Paradise will look at the dwellers of the lofty chambers above them in the same way that you look at a shining star far away on the horizon, in the East or in the West, due to their superiority over one another.' The Companions said: 'O Messenger of Allah, are these lofty chambers for the prophets and nobody else can reach them?' He replied: 'No! By Allah in whose Hand my soul is, these are for the men who believed in Allah and believed the Messengers.’"

The dwellers of Paradise will be in different levels according to their level of virtue, such that those in the high levels will be seen by those below them just as the stars are seen in the sky

If someone intends to do a good deed but was prevented by a valid excuse, he shall gain the reward of his intention.

Variation of reward for good deeds is based on sincerity and following of the Prophet’s guidance. The more a person is sincere to Allah, and the keener he is on following the Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him), the more perfect his worship will be, and consequently his reward will be bigger.

The intentions of some people have reached the ultimate level of sincerity (to Allah) and keenness in following the Sunnah (of the Messenger of Allah) with regard to doing good and righteous deeds, while the intentions of others are below that.
