﴿ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا جَآءُو قَالَ أَكَذَّبۡتُم بِـَٔايَٰتِي وَلَمۡ تُحِيطُواْ بِهَا عِلۡمًا أَمَّاذَا كُنتُمۡ تَعۡمَلُونَ

سورة النمل
line

84. Till, when they come (before their Lord at the place of reckoning), He will say: "Did you deny My Ayât (proofs, evidence, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) whereas you comprehended them not by knowledge (of their truth or falsehood), or what (else) was it that you used to do?"

﴿ وَقَالُواْ لَوۡ كُنَّا نَسۡمَعُ أَوۡ نَعۡقِلُ مَا كُنَّا فِيٓ أَصۡحَٰبِ ٱلسَّعِيرِ

سورة الملك

And they will say, "If only we had been listening or reasoning, we would not be among the companions of the Blaze."

﴿ وَبِٱلۡحَقِّ أَنزَلۡنَٰهُ وَبِٱلۡحَقِّ نَزَلَۗ وَمَآ أَرۡسَلۡنَٰكَ إِلَّا مُبَشِّرٗا وَنَذِيرٗا

سورة الإسراء

And with the truth We have sent it [i.e., the Qur’ān] down, and with the truth it has descended. And We have not sent you, [O Muḥammad], except as a bringer of good tidings and a warner.

﴿ وَمَا خَلَقۡنَا ٱلسَّمَآءَ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ وَمَا بَيۡنَهُمَا لَٰعِبِينَ

We did not create the heavens and earth and all that is between them for fun.

﴿ ۞ لَّقَدۡ رَضِيَ ٱللَّهُ عَنِ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ إِذۡ يُبَايِعُونَكَ تَحۡتَ ٱلشَّجَرَةِ فَعَلِمَ مَا فِي قُلُوبِهِمۡ فَأَنزَلَ ٱلسَّكِينَةَ عَلَيۡهِمۡ وَأَثَٰبَهُمۡ فَتۡحٗا قَرِيبٗا

سورة الفتح

Certainly was Allāh pleased with the believers when they pledged allegiance to you, [O Muḥammad], under the tree, and He knew what was in their hearts, so He sent down tranquility upon them and rewarded them with an imminent conquest[1514]

﴿ أَبۡصَٰرُهَا خَٰشِعَةٞ

سورة النازعات

and their eyes[6] will be downcast.

﴿ فَكُلًّا أَخَذۡنَا بِذَنۢبِهِۦۖ فَمِنۡهُم مَّنۡ أَرۡسَلۡنَا عَلَيۡهِ حَاصِبٗا وَمِنۡهُم مَّنۡ أَخَذَتۡهُ ٱلصَّيۡحَةُ وَمِنۡهُم مَّنۡ خَسَفۡنَا بِهِ ٱلۡأَرۡضَ وَمِنۡهُم مَّنۡ أَغۡرَقۡنَاۚ وَمَا كَانَ ٱللَّهُ لِيَظۡلِمَهُمۡ وَلَٰكِن كَانُوٓاْ أَنفُسَهُمۡ يَظۡلِمُونَ

40. So We punished each (of them) for his sins; of them were some on whom We sent Hâsib (a violent wind with shower of stones) [as on the people of Lût (Lot)], and of them were some who were overtaken by As-Saihah [torment - awful cry. (as Thamûd or Shu‘aib’s people)], and of them were some whom We caused the earth to swallow [as Qârûn (Korah)], and of them were some whom We drowned [as the people of Nûh (Noah), or Fir‘aun (Pharaoh) and his people]. It was not Allâh Who wronged them, but they wronged themselves.

﴿ وَإِذۡ قَالَ رَبُّكَ لِلۡمَلَٰٓئِكَةِ إِنِّي جَاعِلٞ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ خَلِيفَةٗۖ قَالُوٓاْ أَتَجۡعَلُ فِيهَا مَن يُفۡسِدُ فِيهَا وَيَسۡفِكُ ٱلدِّمَآءَ وَنَحۡنُ نُسَبِّحُ بِحَمۡدِكَ وَنُقَدِّسُ لَكَۖ قَالَ إِنِّيٓ أَعۡلَمُ مَا لَا تَعۡلَمُونَ

And [remember] when your Lord said to the angels, “I am going to appoint a vicegerent on earth.” They said, “Will You appoint on it someone who will spread corruption therein and shed blood, while we glorify You with Your praises and proclaim Your holiness?” He said, “I know that which you do not know.”

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever has two wives and is inclined to one of them will come on the Day of Judgment with his side inclined."

The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) informs that whoever has more than one wife and does not maintain justice between them as much as possible, by providing equal treatment in terms of financial support, housing, clothing, and overnight stay, half of his body will be hanging down as a punishment for him on the Day of Judgment. Such inclination is a punishment for his injustice, reflecting his unfair treatment.

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah has forgiven my Ummah for the thoughts that come to their minds, unless they act upon them or utter them."

The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) informs that a Muslim will not be held accountable for evil thoughts he has in his mind before he acts upon them or speaks about them, as Allah has lifted the restriction and pardoned. He does not hold the Ummah of Muhammad (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) accountable for what comes to their minds and wavers in their souls, without being settled therein. If it settles in a person's heart, like arrogance, conceit, or hypocrisy, or he acts upon it with his limbs or says it with his tongue, then he will be held accountable for that.

Jābir (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Let no man stay the night in the place of a previously married woman unless he is her husband or her Mahram."

The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) forbids staying the night at the place of a woman whom one is not married to, especially that of a woman who has been previously married, for she is often accessible. Virgins, however, avoid men. If men are forbidden access to non-virgins, who are usually accessible, then they are even more so forbidden access to virgins. The exception here applies to one's wife and one's blood relatives, such as his mother; daughter; sister; relatives through fostering, such the suckling mother; and relatives through marriage, such as one's mother-in-law. "Staying the night" does not mean that a man is allowed to stay in seclusion with a non-Mahram woman during the daytime. According to Sahīh Al-Bukhāri, the interdiction is general and not restricted to the night time. If a Mahram, however, is not trustworthy, a non-Mahram woman must be accompanied by other women.

Ibn ‘Abbās (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) slaughtered a ram for Al-Hasan and a ram for Al-Husayn for their ‘Aqīqah.

Ibn ‘Abbās (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) slaughtered two rams for Al-Hasan and Al-Husayn when they were born, for each one. This indicates that it is legally permissible to have an ‘Aqeedah for newborns.

‘Ā'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) commanded them to slaughter two similar sheep for a boy and one sheep for a girl (at their birth).

In this Hadīth, ‘Ā'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) commanded them to slaughter for the ‘Aqīqah of a baby boy two sheep that are similar in age, size, and quality, and to slaughter for the ‘Aqīqah of a baby girl one sheep. ‘Aqīqah is the sacrificial animal slaughtered at the occasion of a baby's birth. It also refers to the banquet where this animal is served.

Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A child is held in pledge for his ‘Aqīqah which should be slaughtered on his behalf on the seventh day after his birth, and he should be given a name, and his head should be shaved."

In this Hadīth, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) says that a newborn is in pledge for his ‘Aqīqah that is to be slaughtered on his behalf on the seventh day after his birth. It is recommended to name him on the same day and to shave his head. Shaving is for males only.

‘Ā’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported that Hind bint ‘Utbah, the wife of Abu Sufyān, came to the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah, Abu Sufyān is a miser man. He does not give me provision that is sufficient for me and my children except that which I take from his money without his knowledge. ٍShall I be held sinful for doing so?" The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) replied: "Take from his wealth what is reasonably sufficient for you and your children."

Hind bint ‘Utbah went to the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) seeking his advice regarding her husband, Abu Sufyān, who was not giving her provision sufficient for her and her children. She wanted to know if she was permitted to take from his wealth without his knowledge, and the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) informed her that it is permissible, provided that she may only take what would be reasonably sufficient without excess or transgression.

Anas ibn Mālik (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: ‘Abdur-Rahmān ibn ‘Awf and Az-Zubayr ibn al-‘Awwām (may Allah be pleased with both of them) complained of lice to the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) during one of the battles, and so he granted them a concession to wear a silk shirt, and I saw them wearing that.

A religion of ease, Islam gives concession in certain cases of need, i.e. allowing what is unlawful for a valid reason. The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) allowed Az-Zubayr and ‘Abdur-Rahmān to wear a silk shirt since it wards off lice by what Allah has naturally created in it; likewise, it is a cure for itching. This concession is for these cases and the like.

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I advise you to treat women kindly, for the woman was created from a rib, and the most crooked part of the rib is its uppermost part. If you try to straighten it, you will break it; and if you leave it, it will remain crooked. So, treat women kindly." Another narration reads: "A woman is like a rib: if you straighten her, you will break her, and if you enjoy her, you will enjoy her as she has some crookedness." Another narration reads: "The woman was created from a rib and will not remain straight for you in any way. So, if you enjoy her, you enjoy her as she has some crookedness. And if you try to straighten her, you will break her, and breaking her is divorcing her."

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) conveys a message regarding how women should be treated. He reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) asked them to accept his advice that they should treat women in a kind and good manner. This is because women are characterized by some deficiency in their reason, religion, thinking, and all of their affairs, since they were created from a rib. To clarify, Allah created Adam (peace be upon him) from dust without father and mother. When Allah, the Exalted, willed to bring humanity out of Adam, He created his wife (Eve) from his bent rib. If a man wants to benefit from his bent rib, he has to benefit from it with its bending there. If he tried to straighten it, he would break it. Likewise, if a person wants to enjoy a woman, he has to enjoy her while crookedness remains in her and accept the benefits available. However, if he tries to straighten her, she will not be straightened and he will not be able to, because if she becomes straight in her religious matters, she will not be straight in the matters related to her nature. A woman will never behave exactly as her husband wishes. Rather, there must be cases of disagreement and negligence in addition to a sort of deficiency that already exists in her. Therefore, if you try to straighten her, you will break her, and breaking her is divorcing her. In other words, if you try to straighten her in the way you like, you will not be able to, and as a result you will get fed up with her and divorce her.

‘Abdullāh ibn Zam‘ah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that he heard the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) deliver a sermon when he mentioned the she-camel and the man who had slain it. Thereupon, the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When the most wretched of them was sent forth, a man who was unique (in the bad sense), wicked and strong among his people, rushed to kill it." Then, he mentioned women and advised regarding them and said: "Some of you would whip your wives as if they were slaves and then have intercourse with them at the end of the day." Then, he warned them against laughing at the act of passing wind, saying: "Why should any of you laugh at another doing what he does himself?"

‘Abdullāh ibn Zam‘ah (may Allah be pleased with him) mentions that he heard the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) deliver a sermon from above his camel. This is because it was from the Prophet's guidance not to overburden himself. He would thus not request something that was not available, nor would he reject something that was available, as long as this would not entail negligence or exaggeration in the Shariah. The Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) was giving the sermon, and ‘Abdullāh ibn Zam‘ah heard him. He heard him mention the she-camel, which was the miracle of Prophet Sālih (Methusaleh) (peace be upon him). He also mentioned the one who had slain it, whose name was Qudhār, and he was the most wretched among his people. He made mention of some of his descriptions saying that he was unique (in the bad sense of the word) and extremely corrupt and that he enjoyed a high status among his people. Then, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said during his sermon: "Some of you would whip their wives as if they were slaves." This indicates harsh disciplining. The context of the Hadīth indicates the improbability of these two being done by a rational person, i.e. that he would beat his wife severely and then have sexual intercourse with her the same day or night. This is because sexual intercourse normally requires a desire for companionship, love, and affection, whereas the one who is whipped normally shuns the one who whipped him. So, the dispraise of this type of action was pointed out here. If beating is necessary, it should be a gentle beating that does not cause complete repulsion, so one should not exceed the proper limits in both beating and disciplining. Then, he warned them against laughing at the act of passing wind because it is against good manners and because it entails exposing other people. Out of criticism for such an attitude, he said: "Why should any of you laugh at another doing what he does himself?" This is because laughing is normally caused by something strange or astonishing that lead to smiling. If the smile gets stronger and is accompanied by a sound, it will be considered laughter, and if it becomes even stronger than that, it will be called a guffaw. Since passing wind normally happens to all people, then what is the reason for laughing at the one who passes wind?

Whoever feels remorse for a sin, Allah will guide him to repentance and help him fulfill it.
