They ask you about wine[80] and gambling. Say, "In them is great sin and [yet, some] benefit for people. But their sin is greater than their benefit." And they ask you what they should spend. Say, "The excess [beyond needs]." Thus Allāh makes clear to you the verses [of revelation] that you might give thought

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: A Bedouin man urinated in the mosque, so the people got up and moved towards him to scorn him. So the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Let him and pour a bucket or pail of water onto his urine. You were sent to make things easy and not to make them difficult."
Al-Bukhari and Muslim. This is the wording of Al-Bukhari
A Bedouin man got up and started to urinate inside the Prophet’s Mosque. So, the people attacked him with their tongues, not with their hands; i.e. they shouted at him in scorn. So, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) asked them to leave him alone, and when the man finished urinating, the Prophet ordered them to pour a bucket of water over the place where he urinated, and explained to them that they were callers to facilitating matters, not to making matters difficult and thus causing people to turn away from guidance.
Abu ‘Abdullāh Jābir ibn Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I used to pray with the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and his prayer was moderate in length and his sermon was moderate in length.
Narrated by Muslim
The Prophet's prayer and sermon were not overly long or brief. Yet, they were moderate, being performed and given by the role model for Muslims in general and for Imāms and preachers in particular. So, no one should cite this Hadīth as evidence that the prayer and sermon may take place very quickly, for the Prophet's guidance points to moderation, and sometimes prolongation that causes no boredom.
Abu ‘Abdullāh Jābir ibn ‘Abdullāh (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) dispatched us to intercept a caravan belonging to Quraysh, and he appointed Abu ‘Ubaydah (may Allah be pleased with him) as our commander. He gave us a sack of dates as provision, other than which he did not find anything for us. Abu ‘Ubaydah used to give us one date at a time. He was asked: “What did you use to do with it?” He said: “We used to suck it just as a baby suckles, then we would drink some water after it, which would suffice us for a day until the night. We also used to beat off tree leaves with our sticks, then soak them in water and eat them.” He continued: “We then headed towards the sea coast, where something like a huge mound appeared to us. When we came to it, we found that it was an animal called 'Al-‘Anbar' (sperm whale). Abu ‘Ubaydah said: "It is a dead animal." Then he said: "No, rather we are the messengers of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) and we have gone out in the cause of Allah. Now you are forced by necessity, so you can eat." We kept on eating from it for a month until we fattened up, and we were three hundred men. And indeed, I saw how we scooped out fat from the cavity of its eye in pitchers, then we would cut pieces from it like a bull or the size of a bull. Abu ‘Ubaydah took thirteen men from us and seated them in the cavity of its eye. He took one of its ribs and fixed it up, then saddled the largest camel of ours and it passed under it (the rib). We took large pieces of its meat as provision for our journey back home. When we arrived at Madīnah, we came to the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) and mentioned all of that to him. Thereupon, he said: "It is sustenance that Allah brought out for you. Do you have anything from its meat with you, so that you would feed us?" We sent some of its meat to the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) which he ate.
Narrated by Bukhari & Muslim
The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) sent a detachment to overtake a caravan that was carrying wheat and food for Quraysh. He appointed Abu ‘Ubaydah as their commander. The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) gave them a leather sack of dates, and their commander used to give each one of them one date, due to the scarcity of the provisions they had. They would suck the dates and drink water over them. They also used to pluck the leaves off the trees by their sticks, which are the camels' fodder, then soak them in water to soften them up. When they arrived at the sea shore, they saw something like a mound of sand. When they reached it, they found out that it was a large fish called 'Al-‘Anbar' (sperm whale). Their commander Abu ‘Ubaydah forbade them from eating from it because it was dead, and dead animals are unlawful according to the Qur’anic texts. Then, he changed his ruling and allowed them to eat from it, because it is permissible for the Muslim to eat dead animals when he is forced by necessity, particularly they were on a journey that was an act of obedience to Allah, the Exalted. They forgot that the dead animals of the sea are lawful. Based on necessity, they ate from it and carried some of its meat with them. When they arrived at Madīnah, they informed the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) of that incident, whereupon he approved their action and ate from it.
‘Ā'ishah bint Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) bought food from a Jew and pledged him his iron armor.
Narrated by Bukhari & Muslim
The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) bought barley to serve as food from a Jew, and pawned his coat of mail that he needed for Jihad with him. The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) used to wear that armor in war to give himself extra protection from the enemy's weapons.
Jābir ibn ‘Abdullāh (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I was traveling on a camel and it got exhausted, and I decided to release it. However, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) caught up with me, supplicated for me, and struck it. Thereupon, it started to walk like never before. Then, he said: "Sell it to me for an ounce." I said: ‘No.’ He again said: "Sell it to me." So, I sold it to him for an ounce, but made the stipulation that I should be allowed to ride it back to my family. Then, when I reached home, I took the camel to him and he paid me its price on the spot. As I went back, he sent someone after me and said: "Do you think I bargained with you to take your camel? Take your camel and your dirhams; these are yours."
Narrated by Bukhari & Muslim
Jābir ibn ‘Abdullāh (may Allah be pleased with him) was with the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) in one of his battles. He was riding a camel that became too fatigued to keep up with the rest of the army. Jābir decided to release it and let it run away, given its lack of usefulness. The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) out of his mercy towards his Companions and followers, used to walk at the rear of the army, so as to care for those who are weak, helpless, or stranded. So, he reached Jābir while he was still on his exhausted camel. He supplicated for him and tapped his camel. Thereupon, his mild and merciful strike turned into power and support for the weak animal, and it started to walk faster and more vigorously than ever before. Then, seeking to make Jābir pleased and content and to engage him in a talk that would make the journey easier for him, the kind and gentle Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: “Sell it to me for an ounce.” Jābir (may Allah be pleased with him) desired more of the bounty of Allah, knowing that he would not be sinful if he refused to sell the camel to the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) as this does not fall under the obligatory obedience to him. Nonetheless, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) repeated his request, and so Jābir sold it to him for an ounce on condition that he should ride it back to Madīnah. The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) accepted his condition. When they arrived, Jābir took the camel to the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and gave it to him for the price they had agreed upon. When Jābir went away, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) sent someone to call him back. He returned to the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) who said: “Do you think I bargained with you to take your camel? Take your camel and your dirhams; these are yours", meaning: both are for you. This act should not be regarded as strange, as it came from the generous, well-mannered, and gentle Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him).
Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: A Jewish boy used to serve the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and he fell sick. So the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) came to visit him. He sat by his head and said to him: "Embrace Islam." The boy looked at his father who was with him and who then said: "Obey Abu al-Qāsim." So, he embraced Islam. The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) came out saying: "All praise is due to Allah who saved him from the Fire."
Narrated by Bukhari
The Hadīth relates to us that a young boy from the Jews, where were living in Madīnah, used to serve the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him). The boy fell sick one day, and the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) visited him and offered him to embrace Islam. When the boy accepted it, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Praise be to Allah who saved him from the Fire."
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No slave covers another slave in this world except that Allah would cover him on the Day of Judgment."
Narrated by Muslim
The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) clarifies that no Muslim covers his fellow Muslim in any matter except that Allah Almighty would cover him on the Day of Judgment, as every deed has a recompense that suits it. Allah's covering for him would be by covering his faults and sins without disclosing them to the people gathered on Judgement Day, or it could be by not holding him accountable for them and not mentioning them to him.
Abu Muslim al-Khawlāni reported: The dear and trustworthy one, as he is dear to me and I deem him trustworthy, ‘Awf ibn Mālik al-Ashja‘i (may Allah be pleased to him) said to me: We were with the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him), and we were nine, eight, or seven. He said: "Will you not give the pledge of allegiance to the Messenger of Allah?" We recently gave him a pledge of allegiance, so we said: We have already given you the pledge of allegiance, O Messenger of Allah. Then, he said: "Will you not give the pledge of allegiance to the Messenger of Allah?" We said: We have already given you the pledge of allegiance, O Messenger of Allah. Then, he said: "Will you not give the pledge of allegiance to the Messenger of Allah?" He said: We extended our hands and said: We have already given you the pledge of allegiance, O Messenger of Allah. So, for what should we give you the pledge of allegiance? He said: "To worship Allah and not associate any partners with Him; the five prayers; to obey - and he said in a low tone - and to not ask people for anything." Indeed, I saw some of these people not asking anyone to hand them even the whip if it fell from one of them."
Narrated by Muslim
The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) was with some of the Companions and he asked them three times to give him the pledge of allegiance and covenant to be committed to certain things, which are: First: To worship Allah alone, by obeying His commands and avoiding His prohibitions, and not to associate any partners with Him. Second: To establish the five obligatory prayers every day and night. Third: To hear and obey those who are in charge of Muslims in what is good. Fourth: To ask Allah Almighty for all their needs without asking people for anything, and the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said it in a low voice. The Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) acted upon what they had given the pledge to do to the extent that made the Hadīth narrator say: Verily, I saw some of these Companions when the whip of any of them fell, he would not ask anyone to hand it to him; rather, he would dismount and pick it up himself.
Ibn Mas‘ūd (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He who is inflicted with poverty and seeks relief from people, he will not be relieved; whereras he who seeks relief from Allah, he will be given sustenance from Allah sooner or later."
Narrated by At-Termedhy - Narrated by Abu Daoud - Narrated by Ahmad
Ibn Mas‘ūd informs us that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said that whoever is afflicted with poverty or destitution, and he seeks relief from the people, i.e. he expresses his poverty to them, complains about it, and asks them for help to relieve him from poverty: the result is that his poverty will not be relieved, and every time one of his needs is fulfilled, he is afflicted with another need that is harder than the first one. Whereas he who seeks relief from Allah and relies upon Him alone, Allah will soon relieve him of his poverty and distress with wealth and sufficiency in this life or later on in the Hereafter. Hadīth commentators said that this Hadīth conveys the same meaning as the verse: {And whoever fears Allah, He will make for him a way out. And will provide for him from where he does not expect. And whoever relies upon Allah - then He is sufficient for him} [Sūrat At-Talāq: 2-3]. Relief might be in the form of a wealthy relative who passes away thus he inherits from him, or in the form of money that Allah blesses him with, thus making him rich.
‘Abdullāh ibn ‘Abbās (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him said: “Allah has pardoned for my sake the mistakes and forgetfulness of my Ummah, and what they were coerced to do.”
Narrated by Ibn Majah
An aspect of the divine mercy is that Allah, the Almighty, forgives Muslims their unintended sins, their forgetfulness of obligations (noting that obligations should be fulfilled when remembered), as well as the sins and crimes which they commit under coercion. In this regard, Allah says: {And He has not placed upon you in the religion any hardship.} [Sūrat al-Hajj: 78]
