About the great news[1821] -

﴿ خَلَقَكُم مِّن نَّفۡسٖ وَٰحِدَةٖ ثُمَّ جَعَلَ مِنۡهَا زَوۡجَهَا وَأَنزَلَ لَكُم مِّنَ ٱلۡأَنۡعَٰمِ ثَمَٰنِيَةَ أَزۡوَٰجٖۚ يَخۡلُقُكُمۡ فِي بُطُونِ أُمَّهَٰتِكُمۡ خَلۡقٗا مِّنۢ بَعۡدِ خَلۡقٖ فِي ظُلُمَٰتٖ ثَلَٰثٖۚ ذَٰلِكُمُ ٱللَّهُ رَبُّكُمۡ لَهُ ٱلۡمُلۡكُۖ لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَۖ فَأَنَّىٰ تُصۡرَفُونَ

6. He created you (all) from a single person (Adam); then made from him his wife [Hawwâ’ (Eve)]. And He has sent down for you of cattle eight pairs (of the sheep, two, male and female; of the goats, two, male and female; of the oxen, two, male and female; and of the camels, two, male and female). He creates you in the wombs of your mothers: creation after creation in three veils of darkness. Such is Allâh your Lord. His is the kingdom. Lâ ilâha illâ Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). How then are you turned away?

﴿ مَا كَانَ لِلنَّبِيِّ وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓاْ أَن يَسۡتَغۡفِرُواْ لِلۡمُشۡرِكِينَ وَلَوۡ كَانُوٓاْ أُوْلِي قُرۡبَىٰ مِنۢ بَعۡدِ مَا تَبَيَّنَ لَهُمۡ أَنَّهُمۡ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡجَحِيمِ

113. It is not (proper) for the Prophet and those who believe to ask Allâh’s Forgiveness for the Mushrikûn (polytheists, idolaters, pagans, disbelievers in the Oneness of Allâh), even though they be of kin, after it has become clear to them that they are the dwellers of the Fire (because they died in a state of disbelief).

﴿ ثُمَّ أَدۡبَرَ يَسۡعَىٰ

22. Then he turned his back, striving (against Allâh).

﴿ قُل لَّآ أَقُولُ لَكُمۡ عِندِي خَزَآئِنُ ٱللَّهِ وَلَآ أَعۡلَمُ ٱلۡغَيۡبَ وَلَآ أَقُولُ لَكُمۡ إِنِّي مَلَكٌۖ إِنۡ أَتَّبِعُ إِلَّا مَا يُوحَىٰٓ إِلَيَّۚ قُلۡ هَلۡ يَسۡتَوِي ٱلۡأَعۡمَىٰ وَٱلۡبَصِيرُۚ أَفَلَا تَتَفَكَّرُونَ

Say, [O Muḥammad], "I do not tell you that I have the depositories [containing the provision] of Allāh or that I know the unseen, nor do I tell you that I am an angel. I only follow what is revealed to me." Say, "Is the blind equivalent to the seeing? Then will you not give thought?"

﴿ قَالَ قَدۡ أُجِيبَت دَّعۡوَتُكُمَا فَٱسۡتَقِيمَا وَلَا تَتَّبِعَآنِّ سَبِيلَ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يَعۡلَمُونَ

89. Allâh said: "Verily, the invocation of you both is accepted. So you both keep to the Straight Way (i.e. keep on doing good deeds and preaching Allâh’s Message with patience), and follow not the path of those who know not (the truth i.e. to believe in the Oneness of Allâh, and also to believe in the Reward of Allâh: Paradise)."

﴿ وَجَعَلۡنَا سِرَاجٗا وَهَّاجٗا

سورة النبأ

13. And We have made (therein) a shining lamp (sun).

﴿ وَٱلَّذِينَ يَسۡعَوۡنَ فِيٓ ءَايَٰتِنَا مُعَٰجِزِينَ أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ فِي ٱلۡعَذَابِ مُحۡضَرُونَ

And the ones who strive against Our verses to cause [them] failure[1236] - those will be brought into the punishment [to remain].

﴿ وَذَرِ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱتَّخَذُواْ دِينَهُمۡ لَعِبٗا وَلَهۡوٗا وَغَرَّتۡهُمُ ٱلۡحَيَوٰةُ ٱلدُّنۡيَاۚ وَذَكِّرۡ بِهِۦٓ أَن تُبۡسَلَ نَفۡسُۢ بِمَا كَسَبَتۡ لَيۡسَ لَهَا مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ وَلِيّٞ وَلَا شَفِيعٞ وَإِن تَعۡدِلۡ كُلَّ عَدۡلٖ لَّا يُؤۡخَذۡ مِنۡهَآۗ أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُبۡسِلُواْ بِمَا كَسَبُواْۖ لَهُمۡ شَرَابٞ مِّنۡ حَمِيمٖ وَعَذَابٌ أَلِيمُۢ بِمَا كَانُواْ يَكۡفُرُونَ

And leave those who take their religion as amusement and diversion and whom the worldly life has deluded. But remind with it [i.e., the Qur’ān], lest a soul be given up to destruction for what it earned; it will have other than Allāh no protector and no intercessor. And if it should offer every compensation, it would not be taken from it [i.e., that soul]. Those are the ones who are given to destruction for what they have earned. For them will be a drink of scalding water and a painful punishment because they used to disbelieve.

﴿ تَبَارَكَ ٱلَّذِي نَزَّلَ ٱلۡفُرۡقَانَ عَلَىٰ عَبۡدِهِۦ لِيَكُونَ لِلۡعَٰلَمِينَ نَذِيرًا

Blessed is He who sent down the Criterion upon His Servant that he may be to the worlds a warner -

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I saw the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) eating some dates while sitting on his buttocks with his knees bent upwards.

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I saw the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) eating some dates while sitting with his buttocks on the ground and his knees bent upwards. He sat that way so as not to eat much, because in this position one is not sitting comfortably so he does not eat much.

Abu Rimthah At-Taymi (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I saw the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) wearing two green garments.

Abu Rimthah (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that he saw the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) wearing green garments.

‘Abdullāh ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) prohibited Wisāl (continuous fasting for two days). So they said to him: "But you practice Wisāl!" He said: "I am not like you. I am provided with food and drink (by my Lord)." The narration reported by Abu Sa‘īd al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) reads: "... so whoever of you wishes to practice Wisāl, let him do so until the pre-dawn time.”

The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessing be upon him) forbade his Companions from Wisāl out of mercy and compassion for them. However, the Companions, out of their love for virtuous deeds and their eagerness to perform deeds that would bring them closer to Allah, wished to practice the Wisāl fast, following the example of the Prophet. They said to him: But you practice Wisāl! So he informed them that he was given (by Allah) what compensates his need for food and drink. He added that whoever wants to continuously fast, then he may do so until the time before dawn. The Islamic Shariah is tolerant and easy and is free of whatever causes hardship and distress, and is also free of extremism and excess, because that would entail torture and exhaustion of the self, and Allah does not charge a soul except with that within its capacity. This is also because ease and facilitation encourage the continuity of deeds and ward off boredom. Moreover, they emphasize the justice that Allah has placed on earth, which is giving Allah what He demands of worship while giving the self its essential needs.

Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported: The garment that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) liked most was the Qamīs (long shirt).

The garment that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) liked most was the Qamīs (long shirt) because it covers the body better than the Izār and Ridā'. Also, because it is one piece and thus easier to wear. However, if you are in a country where people are used to wearing Izār and Ridā' and you dress like them, there is no harm in that. The important thing is to not oppose the style of the people of the country, thereby becoming famous for it. Indeed, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) forbade wearing garment for fame and vanity.

Jābir ibn ‘Abdullāh (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) used to stand by the trunk of a date-palm tree while delivering the sermon. When a pulpit was placed in the mosque, we heard the trunk crying out like a pregnant she-camel until the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) came down from the pulpit and placed his hand over it and it became quiet. In another narration: "On Friday, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) sat on the pulpit, so the date palm tree that he used to stand by while delivering the sermon cried out until it almost split asunder." In a third narration: "... so it cried like a child, and the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) descended (from the pulpit) and embraced it while it continued moaning like a child being quietened until it calmed down. He said: 'It was crying for (missing) what it used to hear of Dhikr near it.’"

The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) took a trunk as a pulpit, and when he replaced it, he heard the sound and crying of that trunk over the Dhikr it used to hear. So, the Prophet descended and put his hand over it, and it calmed as a result. In another narration: "He descended and took it in his arms, and this took place during the Friday sermon."

Abu Sa‘īd al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: Some people from the Ansār asked the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) for charity and he gave them. They asked him again, and he gave them until there was nothing left. Thereupon, he said to them: "Whatever good I have, I will not withhold from you. Whoever tries to be chaste, Allah will make him chaste; whoever tries to be self-sufficient, Allah will make him self-sufficient; whoever tries to be patient, Allah will make him patient. No one is granted a gift better and ampler than patience."

Some people from the Ansār asked the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) for alms and he gave them. They asked him again and he gave them until he had nothing left. He told them that he would not withhold anything from them. He urged them to be chaste, self-sufficient, and patient. The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) informed them that anyone who is satisfied with the divine blessings, without need for people, Allah makes him rich. Indeed, richness is in the heart. With self-sufficiency, one needs nothing from others. Also, being chaste, one earns divine protection for oneself and one's spouse. Finally, anyone who tries to be patient, Allah grants him patience, for there is nothing better than patience.

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) kissed Al-Hasan ibn ‘Ali while Al-Aqra‘ ibn Hābis was present. Al-Aqra‘ observed: "I have ten children, and I have never kissed any of them." Thereupon, the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) looked at him and said: "Whoever does not show mercy will not be shown mercy!"

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) informed that the Messenger (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) kissed Al-Hasan ibn ‘Ali while Al-Aqra‘ ibn Hābis At-Tamīmi was sitting with him. Al-Aqra‘ remarked: "I have ten children, and I have never kissed any of them." Thereupon, the Messenger (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) looked at him and said: "Whoever does not show mercy will not be shown mercy." In another narration: "What can I do if Allah has removed mercy from your heart?" Meaning: If Allah, the Almighty, has taken the feeling of mercy away from your heart, can I ever bring it back?

‘Abdullāh ibn ‘Amr ibn al-‘Ās (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) recited the words of Allah, the Exalted, about Prophet Ibrahīm (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) who said: {My Lord, indeed they have led astray many among the people. So whoever follows me - then he is of me} [Sūrat Ibrahīm :36], and those of Jesus (peace be upon him) who said: {If You punish them, they are Your slaves, and if You forgive them, verily, You, only You, are the All-Mighty, the All-Wise} [Sūrat al-Mā'idah: 118]. Then, he (Prophet Muhammad) raised up his hands and said: "O Allah, my Ummah, my Ummah" and wept; Allah, the Exalted, said: "O Jibrīl, go to Muhammad and ask him: 'What makes you weep?'" So angel Jibrīl went to him and asked him (what made him weeping) and the Messenger of Allah informed him what he had said (though Allah knew it well). Upon this Allah said: "O Jibrīl, go to Muhammad and say: 'Verily, We will please you with regard to your Ummah and will not displease you.'"

The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) recited the statement of Ibrahīm (peace be upon him) about the idols: {My Lord, indeed they (the idols) have led astray many among the people. So whoever follows me - then he is of me.} [Sūrat Ibrahīm: 36] and Jesus' statement: {If You punish them, then indeed they are Your servants, and if You forgive them, then indeed You are the All-Wise and All-Mighty} [Sūrat al-Mā'idah: 118]. Then the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) raised his hands up and said: "O my Lord, my Ummah, my Ummah," meaning: have mercy upon them and pardon them. Then Allah, Glorified and Exalted, said to angel Jibrīl: "Go to Muhammad and ask him why he is crying?" although He already knew why he was crying. The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) told Jibrīl that he was concerned about his Ummah, and surely Allah knows what he said. Then Allah said to Jibrīl: "Go to Muhammad and tell him: 'We will please you concerning your Ummah, and Will not sadden you.’" Allah, the Almighty, has really pleased and satisfied the Prophet with regard to his Ummah in many ways, such as: multiplying the rewards of the Muslim Ummah; they are the last Ummah but they will be the foremost on the Day of Resurrection; and they have been favored with many bounties over the rest of the nations.

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: A slave girl of Madīnah would take hold of the hand of the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and would take him wherever she wished.

This Hadīth highlights the extreme humbleness of the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) though he is the best of creation. Any slave girl from Madīnah who sought his help would go to him, take his hand, and take him wherever she wished so he could help her with what she needed. This would happen even though he was the best of mankind. He would not ask her: "Where are you taking me?" or say: "Go to someone else," instead, he would go with her and help her with her need. Nevertheless, Allah raised him through this in status and honor. Note: The intended meaning in this Hadīth is not that the slave girl actually touched the hand of the Prophet in the physical sense. Al-Hāfiz said: “’Taking his hand’ is intended to mean that he accompanied her with gentleness and willingness.” This Hadīth reflects the Prophet's humbleness on several levels, as it mentioned that it was a female who took his hand, not a male, and it was a slave, not a free woman, and it used the indefinite article to indicate that this could happen with any slave girl, whoever she was.

Jubayr ibn Mut‘im (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: While I was walking with the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) on his return from the battle of Hunayn, a few Bedouins caught hold of him and began to demand their shares. They forced him to a tree, and someone snatched his cloak (which got entangled in that thorny tree). The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Give my cloak back to me. Were I to have camels equal to the number of these trees, I would distribute them all among you, and you would not have found me a miser, a liar, or a coward."

When the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) was returning from the battle of Hunayn - a valley between Makkah and Taif - and Jubair ibn Mut‘im was with him, some Bedouins grabbed him and began to demand their shares. They forced him to the Samrah tree (a thorny tree), and his cloak became entangled in the tree's thorns, and they were pulling at him. The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Give my cloak back to me. Were I to have camels or cows or sheep equal to the number of these thorny trees, I would distribute them all among you. If you were to try me, you would not find me a miser, a liar, or a coward."

Whoever feels remorse for a sin, Allah will guide him to repentance and help him fulfill it.
