‘Abdur-Rahmān ibn Abi ‘Umayrah, a Companion of the Messenger of Allah reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said to Mu‘āwiyah: "O Allah, make him a guide who is rightly guided, and guide others through him."
Narrated by At-Termedhy - Narrated by AhmadThe Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) supplicated in favor of Mu‘āwiyah ibn Abi Sufyān that Allah would make him a guide to good, make him a guided person, and guide people through him.
Anas ibn Mālik (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: Some people came to the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "Send with us some men to teach us the Qur'an and the Sunnah." So he sent to them seventy men from the Ansār who were called "the reciters"; among them was my maternal uncle Harām. They used to recite the Qur'an and collectively study it and discuss its meaning at night. In the day they used to bring water and pour it into containers in the mosque, and they would collect firewood and sell it. With the sale proceeds of the wood they would buy food for the people of Suffah and the needy. The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) sent these reciters with the people who asked but they treacherously attacked them and killed them before they reached their destination. (While dying) they supplicated: "O Allah, convey to our Prophet on our behalf that we have met You in a way that we are pleased with You and You are pleased with us." (The narrator said) A man attacked Harām, Anas's uncle, from behind and stabbed him with a spear piercing him, whereupon Harām said: "By the Lord of the Ka‘bah, I have won!" Then the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said to his Companions: "Your brothers have been slain and they said: "O Allah, convey to our Prophet on our behalf that we have met You in a way that we are pleased with You and You are pleased with us."
Narrated by Bukhari & MuslimA delegation from some Bedouin tribes came to the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) pretending that they had accepted Islam. They asked the Prophet to send them some people to teach them the Qur'an, so the Prophet sent seventy men who were known as the reciters, because they were diligent in learning the Qur'an and studying it. Their preoccupation with reciting the Qur'an did not prevent them from earning a living and working. Anas says that during the day, they would fetch water and fill the water containers in the mosque to be used for making ablution or drinking or any other purpose. They would collect firewood and sell it and buy food for the people of Suffah and the poor with the proceeds. The people of Suffah were poor people who had no family in Madīnah and slept at the back of the Prophet's mosque in a canopied area called Suffah. The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) sent the reciters with those people but when they dismounted at the well of Ma‘ūnah, before reaching their destination - the house of Abu Barā’ ibn Mulā‘ib al-Asinnah - a group of men led by ‘Āmir ibn At-Tufayl attacked the reciters and killed them all. As they were dying they said: "O Allah, convey to our Prophet on our behalf that we have met You in a way that we are pleased with You and You are pleased with us." In another narration they said: "Convey to our people on our behalf that we have truly met our Lord and He was pleased with us and made us pleased." Archangel Jibrīl informed the Prophet that they have met their Lord and that He was pleased with them and He made them pleased, as mentioned in Al-Bukhāri's narration. The Messenger of Allah conveyed this news to his Companions in Madīnah, saying: "Your brothers have been killed and they said: 'O Allah, convey to our Prophet on our behalf that we have met You in a way that we are pleased with You and You are pleased with us.'" This statement of theirs means that Allah, the Almighty, was pleased with them due to their obedience to Him, and that they were pleased with Him due to what He had blessed them with and bestowed upon them of generous favors. The pleasure of Allah with a person entails showering him with His mercy, kindness and all good things.
Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and his Companions set out and reached Badr before the polytheists did. When the polytheists arrived, the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Let no one of you advance to anything unless I am ahead of him." The polytheists then came near, so the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Proceed toward a Paradise as wide as the heavens and earth." ‘Umayr ibn al-Humām al-Ansāri (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "O Messenger of Allah, a Paradise as wide as the heavens and earth?" He said: 'Yes.' He remarked: '"Bakhin! Bakhin!" (an Arabic expression of astonishment) The Messenger of Allah asked him what made him say so. He replied: "Nothing, by Allah, O Messenger of Allah, except the hope that I might be one of its dwellers." The Messenger of Allah said: "You are one of its dwellers." So he (‘Umayr) took some dates out of his quiver and started to eat them, then he said: "If I lived until I finished eating these dates of mine, it would be a long life indeed." So he threw away the dates he had then fought them until he was killed.
Narrated by MuslimAnas (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) set forth from Madīnah with his Companions to meet the caravan of Abu Sufyān that had come from Syria heading toward Makkah. The Muslims did not set out to fight; however, Allah made them encounter their enemies without prior planning on their part. Hence, some Companions did not take part in this battle and the Prophet did not reprimand any of them. Then the Prophet camped in Badr before the disbelievers of Quraysh reached the place. He took his position there and when the disbelievers of Quraysh arrived, he said to the Companions: ''Let no one of you advance to anything unless I am ahead of him'", meaning that he forbade them from advancing toward anything until he was closer than them to that thing so that every possible advantage unknown to them could be utilized. Then the Prophet urged the Companions to hasten to a Paradise that was as wide as the heavens and earth, meaning that they should not delay in sacrificing their lives for the sake of Allah, for their promised reward was a Paradise as wide as the heavens and earth. With this he encouraged and motivated them to fight the disbelievers. ‘Umayr ibn al-Humām al-Ansāri was amazed to hear that and asked the Prophet about it again, saying: "O Messenger of Allah, a Paradise as wide as the heavens and earth?!" The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'Yes.' Thereupon, ‘Umayr said: "Bakhin! Bakhin!" which is an Arabic expression reflecting astonishment. The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) asked him why he said that; i.e. what motivated him to say it, was it fear? He replied: "No, by Allah, O Messenger of Allah, but I only hoped to be one of its people." Thereupon, the Prophet assured him that he was one of them. The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) gave his Companions glad tidings to motivate them to exert themselves in doing the deeds that would make them deserve Paradise. On hearing such glad tidings from the most truthful and most trusted who does not speak from his own inclination, ‘Umayr took out some dates from his quiver and started to eat them. But then he felt that life was too long and said: "If I lived until I finished eating these dates of mine, it would be a long life indeed." So he threw away the dates and proceeded to fight until he was killed.
Fudālah ibn ‘Ubayd (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that when the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) led the people in prayer, some men would collapse while praying from hunger — Those were the people of the Suffah — until the Bedouins would say: "These people are mad." So when the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings upon him) finished the prayer, he would turn to them and say: "If you knew what was in store for you with Allah, the Exalted, you would love to be increased in poverty and need."
Narrated by At-TermedhyThis Hadīth mentions that there were men who would collapse while standing in prayer out of hunger and weakness. These belonged to the people of the Suffah, i.e. the ascetic Companions who were destitute and homeless. They were more or less seventy men who lived at the back of the Prophet’s Mosque as they had no homes, no money, and no children. The desert people would think that they were insane when they saw them collapsing in prayer. So the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said to the people of the Suffah: "If you knew what was in store for you with Allah of good things, you would love to be in more poverty and need."
Abu Sulaymān Khālid ibn al-Walīd (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "During the battle of Mu'tah, nine swords were broken in my hand, and all that remained with me was a Yemeni sword."
Narrated by BukhariKhālid ibn al-Walīd (may Allah be pleased with him) who was nicknamed "the sword of Allah", was a great Muslim warrior who boldly attended the battles and led the Muslim armies. He descends from one of the noble tribes of Quraysh in the pre-Islamic times. He accepted Islam before the conquest of Makkah. Khālid ibn al-Walīd participated in the battle of Uhud siding with the polytheists of Makkah, then he accepted Islam. This, in fact, shows how perfect the Power of Allah, Glorified and Exalted, is and that all matters are in the Hand of Allah who guides whom He wills and sends astray whom He wills. Khālid (may Allah be pleased with him) tells about the swords broken in his hand during the battle of Mu'tah, which reflects his courage and bravery.
Buraydah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) went out for one of his expeditions, then when he came back, a black slave-girl came to him and said: "O Messenger of Allah, I made a vow that if Allah returned you safely, I would beat the tambourine before you and sing." So the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said to her: "If you have made a vow, then beat it, and if you have not, then do not." So she started to beat the tambourine, and Abu Bakr entered while she was beating it. Then ‘Ali entered while she was beating it, then ‘Uthmān entered while she was beating it. Then ‘Umar entered, so she put the tambourine under her buttocks, and sat upon it. So, the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, the devil is afraid of you, O ‘Umar! I was sitting while she beat the tambourine, and then Abu Bakr entered while she was beating it, then ‘Ali entered while she was beating it, then ‘Uthmān entered while she was beating it, and then when you entered, O ‘Umar, she put away the tambourine."
Narrated by At-Termedhy - Narrated by AhmadWhen the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) returned victorious from one of his expeditions, a black slave-girl told him that she had made a vow that if he returned safe and victorious, she would beat the tambourine and sing in celebration of his arrival. The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) told her that if she had vowed to do so, she should fulfill her vow and beat the tambourine. Otherwise, she should not. She beat the tambourine and kept doing as Abu Bakr, ‘Ali, and ‘Uthmān came in. It was only when ‘Umar entered that she stopped beating. She put the tambourine under her buttocks to cover it in awe of ‘Umar. On that, the Prophet, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him said that the devil feared ‘Umar, for the girl beat the tambourine in the presence of the Prophet, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him; Abu Bakr; ‘Uthmān; and ‘Ali and only stopped when ‘Umar came in. In fact, playing musical instruments is forbidden, as per the consensus of scholars and the indications of multiple texts. The only exception is the tambourine that women may beat in weddings, festivals, and for the arrival of a dear one who was away for home.
Abu Qatādah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) addressed us and said: "You will proceed with your journey along the evening and the night, then you will come to a place of water, Allah willing, in the morning." So the people proceeded, without paying any heed to one another. Abu Qatādah said: "The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) also traveled until it was midnight. I was by his side. The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) dozed off and leaned (to one side) of his camel. I went to him and lent him support without waking him up until he sat upright on his riding mount. He went on traveling until a major part of the night was over and (he again) leaned (to one side) of his camel. I supported him without waking him up until he sat on his ride. Then he traveled until it was near dawn. He (again) leaned, but far more, than the two earlier leanings, and he was about to fall down. So I went to him and supported him, and he lifted his head and said: 'Who is this?' I said: 'It is Abu Qātadah.' He (the Prophet again) said: 'How long have you been traveling along with me like this?' I said: 'I have been traveling in this very state since the night.' He said: 'May Allah guard you as you have guarded His Prophet.' He again said: 'Do you see that we are hidden from the people?' And again he said: 'Do you see anyone?' I said: 'Here is a rider.' I again said: 'Here is another rider,' until we gathered together and we were seven riders.' The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) stepped aside of the road and placed his head (for sleep and said): 'Guard our prayers for us.' The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) was the first to wake up, and the rays of the sun were falling on his back. We got up startled. He (the Prophet) said: 'Ride on.' So we rode on until the sun had (sufficiently) risen. He then dismounted and called for a jug of water which I had with me. There was a little water in it. He performed an ablution which was less thorough than his usual ablutions, and some water was left. The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said to Abu Qatādah: 'Keep for us your jug of water; it will have a miraculous affair.' Then Bilāl called (the people) to prayer, and then the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) observed two Rak‘ahs and then observed the morning prayer as he did every day. The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) (then) rode on and we rode along with him, and some of us whispered to the others saying: 'How would there be compensation for the negligence we committed in our prayers?' Upon this, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'Is there not in me a model for you? There is no negligence in sleeping. The (cognizable) negligence is that one should not observe the prayer (intentionally) until the time of the next prayer comes. So the one who does this (leave a prayer on account of sleep or due to other unavoidable circumstances) should observe the prayer when he becomes aware of it, and on the next day he should observe the prayer at its prescribed time.' Then he (the Prophet) said: 'What do you think the people would do (at this hour) when they would not find their Prophet with them in the morning. Abu Bakr and ‘Umar would say: ‘The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) must be behind you, he cannot leave you behind (him).’ Other people would say: ‘The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) is ahead of you.’ So if they obey Abu Bakr and ‘Umar, they would follow the right path.' So we proceeded on till we came up to the people (from whom we had lagged behind), and the day had considerably risen and everything became hot, and they (the Companions of the Prophet) said: 'O Messenger of Allah, we are dying of thirst.' Upon this, he (the Prophet) remarked: 'There is no destruction for you.' And he then said: 'Bring that small cup of mine.' And he then asked for the jug of water to be brought to him. The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) poured water (in that small cup), and Abu Qatādah gave them water to drink. When the people saw that there was (a little) water in the jug, they gathered in crowds around it. Upon this, the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'Behave well; you will drink to your fill.' They complied. So the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) would fill (the cup), and I would serve them until no one was left except me and the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him). He then filled (the cup) with water and said to me: 'Drink it.' I said: 'Messenger of Allah, I will not drink until you drink.' Upon this, he said: 'The server of the people is the last among them to drink.' So I drank, and the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) also drank, and the people came to the place of water quite happy and satiated." ‘Abdullāh ibn Rabāh said: "I was narrating this Hadīth in the grand mosque, when ‘Imrān ibn Husayn said: 'See, O young man, how will you narrate, for I was also one of the riders on that night.' I said: 'So you must know this Hadīth well.' He said: 'Who are you?' I said: 'I am one of the Ansār.' Upon this, he said: 'You narrate, for you know your Hadīths better.' I, therefore, narrated it to the people. Then ‘Imrān said: 'I was also present that night, but I do not know anyone who committed it to memory as well as you have.'"
Narrated by Bukhari & MuslimThis noble Hadīth shows that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and his Companions were traveling when they ran out of water. The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) ensured that they would find water ahead of them. On this news, the people hastened, leaving the Prophet and some Companions behind. Abu Qatādah was still with the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him). When it was night, the Prophet dozed off, and Abu Qatādah would support him so that he would not fall off his camel. Then the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) woke and prayed that Allah protect Abu Qatādah as he protected him. Then he told him that the people would argue about his whereabouts and that Abu Bakr and ‘Umar would tell them that he is behind them, adding that if people listened to Abu Bakr and ‘Umar, they would be guided. This is one of the signs of his Prophet-hood. Then they slept at night, and they were awakened the next day by the scorching heat of the sun. Therefore, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said that anyone who sleeps until the prayer's prescribed time is over, without intending to miss the prayer, is not negligent. Rather, he is excused. However, anyone who does not pray until the prayer's time is over is negligent. When the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and the Companions with him, proceeded, they joined the rest of the people, who were almost dying of thirst. The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) assured them that they would not perish and that they would quench their thirst. He called for Abu Qatādah's small pot and made ablution. Then he invited the people to drink. They all drank except for the Prophet may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, and Abu Qatādah. Abu Qatādah drank only after the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) told him that he would drink last, as he was the one serving the water. This incident is one of the miracles of the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him).
Ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, Allah has put the truth upon the tongue and in the heart of ‘Umar." Ibn ‘Umar added: "Never did something occur among people, regarding which they judged and ‘Umar judged, except that the Qur’an was revealed about it in line with what ‘Umar had said."
Narrated by At-Termedhy - Narrated by AhmadIbn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) reports from the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) that Allah made the truth appear upon the tongue and in the heart of ‘Umar. That was a fixed and instinctive quality of ‘Umar. His son Ibn ‘Umar further says that nothing ever happened during the Prophet's lifetime and that the Companions, including ‘Umar, had their own say about it except that the Qur’an was revealed in agreement with Umar's opinion.
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I saw Ja‘far flying in Paradise with the angels.''
Narrated by At-TermedhyThe Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) saw in a dream his cousin Ja‘far ibn Abi Tālib flying in Paradise with the angels. Therefore, he was called Ja‘far At-Tayyār, meaning "the flying Ja‘far", and Dhu al-Janāhayn, meaning "the one with the two wings". Ja‘far was martyred in the battle of Mu'tah after both his arms were cut off, so Allah, the Almighty, replaced them with two wings with which he flies with the angels in Paradise.
