﴿ قُلۡ أَرَءَيۡتُمۡ شُرَكَآءَكُمُ ٱلَّذِينَ تَدۡعُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ أَرُونِي مَاذَا خَلَقُواْ مِنَ ٱلۡأَرۡضِ أَمۡ لَهُمۡ شِرۡكٞ فِي ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ أَمۡ ءَاتَيۡنَٰهُمۡ كِتَٰبٗا فَهُمۡ عَلَىٰ بَيِّنَتٖ مِّنۡهُۚ بَلۡ إِن يَعِدُ ٱلظَّٰلِمُونَ بَعۡضُهُم بَعۡضًا إِلَّا غُرُورًا ﴾

سورة فاطر

40. Say (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم): "Tell me or inform me (what) do you think about your (so-called) partner-gods to whom you call upon besides Allâh? Show me, what they have created of the earth. Or have they any share in the heavens? Or have We given them a Book, so that they act on clear proof therefrom? Nay, the Zâlimûn (polytheists and wrong-doers) promise one another nothing but delusions."

﴿ فَلَا تُطِعِ ٱلۡمُكَذِّبِينَ ﴾

سورة القلم

8. So (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) obey you not the deniers [(of Islâmic Monotheism - those who belie the Verses of Allâh), the Oneness of Allâh, and the Messengership of Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم][1]

﴿ فَلَوۡلَآ إِن كُنتُمۡ غَيۡرَ مَدِينِينَ ﴾

سورة الواقعة

86. Then why do you not - if you are exempt from the reckoning and recompense (punishment) -

﴿ لَا تُبۡقِي وَلَا تَذَرُ ﴾

سورة المدثر

It leaves nothing and spares no one,

﴿ كَلَّا بَلۡ تُحِبُّونَ ٱلۡعَاجِلَةَ ﴾

سورة القيامة

20. Not [as you think, that you (mankind) will not be resurrected and recompensed for your deeds], but you (men) love the present life of this world,

﴿ أَفَأَمِنُواْ مَكۡرَ ٱللَّهِۚ فَلَا يَأۡمَنُ مَكۡرَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَّا ٱلۡقَوۡمُ ٱلۡخَٰسِرُونَ ﴾

سورة الأعراف

99. Did they then feel secure against the Plan of Allâh? None feels secure from the Plan of Allâh except the people who are the losers.

﴿ وَٱتَّقُواْ يَوۡمٗا تُرۡجَعُونَ فِيهِ إِلَى ٱللَّهِۖ ثُمَّ تُوَفَّىٰ كُلُّ نَفۡسٖ مَّا كَسَبَتۡ وَهُمۡ لَا يُظۡلَمُونَ ﴾

سورة البقرة

And fear a Day when you will be returned to Allāh. Then every soul will be compensated for what it earned, and they will not be wronged [i.e., treated unjustly].

﴿ وَوَهَبۡنَا لَهُۥٓ إِسۡحَٰقَ وَيَعۡقُوبَ نَافِلَةٗۖ وَكُلّٗا جَعَلۡنَا صَٰلِحِينَ ﴾

سورة الأنبياء

And We gave him Isaac and Jacob in addition, and all [of them] We made righteous.

﴿ إِنَّآ أَنزَلۡنَا عَلَيۡكَ ٱلۡكِتَٰبَ لِلنَّاسِ بِٱلۡحَقِّۖ فَمَنِ ٱهۡتَدَىٰ فَلِنَفۡسِهِۦۖ وَمَن ضَلَّ فَإِنَّمَا يَضِلُّ عَلَيۡهَاۖ وَمَآ أَنتَ عَلَيۡهِم بِوَكِيلٍ ﴾

سورة الزمر

41. Verily, We have sent down to you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) the Book (this Qur’ân) for mankind in truth. So whosoever accepts the guidance, it is only for his ownself, and whosoever goes astray, he goes astray only for his (own) loss. And you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) are not a Wakîl (trustee or disposer of affairs, or guardian) over them.[8]

﴿ كَذَّبَتۡ قَوۡمُ لُوطِۭ بِٱلنُّذُرِ ﴾

سورة القمر

33. The people of Lût (Lot) belied the warnings.

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The Hour will not occur until the Euphrates recedes, uncovering a mountain of gold over which people will fight. Ninety-nine out of every hundred will be killed. Every man among them will say: 'I might be the one who survives.'" Another narration states: “Soon the Euphrates will recede uncovering a treasure of gold. Whoever is present at this event should not take anything from it.”

Our noble Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) informs us that close to the establishment of the Hour, the River Euphrates will uncover a treasure of gold or a mountain of gold, meaning the gold will come out as a mountain; and people will fight over it because it is one of the trials. Then he forbids those who witness that incident from taking out of it, because no one will be saved from it. Perhaps some of those who witness that event interpret this Hadīth in a way that alters its true meaning, in order to justify for himself taking from it, we seek refuge with Allah from trials.

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "People will desert Madīnah, in spite of its being in its best condition, and it will only be inhabited by wild beasts and birds. The last to die will be two shepherds from the Muzaynah tribe. They will enter Madīnah driving their sheep, but will find it full of wild beasts. When they reach Thaniyyat al-Wadā‘, they will fall on their faces.”

Narrated by Bukhari & Muslim

The noble Prophet informs us in this Hadīth that, at the end of time, Madīnah (may Allah increase it in honor and nobility) will be deserted by its residents and nothing will remain there, except wild animals and birds. Two shepherds will drive their sheep from Muzaynah to Madīnah and will come to find it desolate and empty. They will be the last to die; when they reach Thaniyyat al-Wadā‘, they will fall dead.

Abu Mūsa al-Ash‘ari (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A time will come when a man will go about with charity of gold and not find anyone to receive it. One man will be seen being followed by forty women dependent upon him on account of the scarcity of men and the high number of women."

Money will increase so abundantly that no one will be found to take it. Men will decrease and women will increase, either due to wars or because more women will be born, to such an extent that for one man, there will be forty women, including daughters, sisters, and relatives, who will depend on him.

Mirdās al-Aslami (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Righteous people will go (die) one after another. Meanwhile, the dregs of people, like waste barley or dates, will remain. Allah will not raise them in esteem."

Narrated by Bukhari

The noble Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) informs us that at the end of times, Allah will take the souls of righteous people; while other people will survive whom Allah will not raise in status or value, nor will have mercy upon them. Indeed, they are the most wicked creatures in His sight. The Hour will occur while they are alive.

Mu‘ādh ibn Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever suppresses his rage while being able to vent it, Allah, Glorified and Exalted, will call him before the entire creation on the Day of Judgment so that he can choose whomever of the houris he wishes to have.”

One shall collect a great reward if he were to suppress his anger when capable of unleashing it, especially when he opts for patience against temptations of anger for the sake of Allah. The reward is being summoned on the Day of Judgment in front of everyone to choose from the most beautiful women of Paradise whomever he desires.

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah, the Almighty, will say on the Day of Judgment: 'Where are those who loved each other for My glory? Today, I will shelter them under My shade the day when there is no shade but My shade.'"

Narrated by Muslim

Allah, the Almighty, will call out to the people at the place of the standing on the Day of Judgment, saying: "Where are those who loved each other for My glory?" He will ask about them despite the fact that He knows where they are and everything else about them. He will declare their virtue at that time and place, to show His greatness. It means, where are those who loved each other for My glory and grandeur and not for any worldly purpose. Then, Allah, the Almighty, will say: "Today, I will shelter them under My shade." The relation of "shade" to Allah is that of honor. What is meant is the shade of the Throne. According to a version other than that in Sahīh Muslim: "besides the shade of My Throne." "On the Day wherein there is no shade but My shade." i.e. on that day, there will be no shade but that of the Throne of the Most Merciful.

Mu‘ādh ibn Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah, the Almighty, said: 'Those who love one another for the sake of My glory will have pulpits of light for which the prophets and martyrs will envy them.'"

The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) relates to us about a group of believers who, on the Day of Judgment, will have pulpits and elevated places where they will sit as a sign of honor for them from Allah. This is due to their love of each other for the sake of Allah and glorifying Him, and their love for each other due to the faith that they are united in. Even the prophets (peace be upon them) will wish to have their status. This does not necessarily mean that they are better than the prophets, because this particular virtue does not supersede the general virtue.

Abu Sa‘īd al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When a dead body is placed on a bier and men carry it on their shoulders, if the deceased was righteous, it (the corpse) would say: 'Send me forward, send me forward'. But if he was not righteous, it would say: 'Woe to it! Where are you taking it?' Everything hears its voice except humans. If they were to hear it, they would fall unconscious."

When the body of a dead person is placed on the bier, then the men carry it on their shoulders, if the dead person was righteous, his corpse would say: "Hasten in taking me to the grave" out of happiness with what it sees ahead of the bliss of Paradise. If the dead person was not righteous, his corpse would say: "What ruin and what destruction (awaits me)!" because of what it sees of an evil destination, so it hates to be taken to the grave. All of Allah's creation hears it, of animals and inanimate objects, except human beings. If a human being were to hear it, they would fall unconscious or die of terror.

Al-Miqdād ibn al-Aswad (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "On the Day of Judgment, the sun will be drawn near people until it becomes a mile away from them." The narrator Sulaym ibn ‘Āmir quoted al-Miqdād as saying: "By Allah, I do not know what he meant by this mile? Is it a distance of one mile or the stick used for applying kohl to the eye? He (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "People will be submerged in sweat according to their deeds. Some will be submerged up to their heels, some up to their knees, some up to their waist, and some will be bridled with sweat (reaching their mouths)." He (the narrator) said: "The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) pointed to his mouth." Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "On the Day of Judgment, people will sweat and their sweat will go seventy cubits down in the earth and it will bridle them until it reaches their ears."

Allah, the Exalted, will bring the sun close to people on the Day of Judgment until it will be at a distance of four-thousand cubits away from them. People's conditions will vary according to their deeds. In other words, the amount of sweat surrounding them on this Day will vary according to their good and bad deeds. There will be some people whose sweat will reach up to their heels, others up to their knees, others up to their waist, and others up to their mouths and ears so that they are bridling with it. People have such a hard experience due to the severe distress and terrors of the Day of Resurrection.

‘Ā'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "An army will invade the Ka‘bah and when it reaches a desert, all of them will be swallowed up by the earth." She asked: "O Messenger of Allah, how will they be swallowed up by the earth while amongst them will be their marketeers and people not belonging to them?" He replied: "All of them will be swallowed up by the earth, then they will be resurrected for judgment according to their intentions."
